Record stores. There’s just something about them. The digging, the debates, the random finds you didn’t even know you needed. Wax Heads is all about that lifestyle – and wraps it all up in a cozy-punk little package.
Out now on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC, this one comes from Patattie Games and Curve Games, dropping players behind the counter of a struggling record shop that’s trying to stay relevant.

Working The Counter At Repeater Records
Everything here revolves around Repeater Records. This is a small-town shop with a bit of history, a bit of charm, and maybe not the brightest future.
You’re the new hire, which basically means helping customers figure out what they want… even when they don’t really know themselves. Some will be super specific, others will just vibe their way through a conversation and expect you to magically land on the perfect album.
That’s where Wax Heads does its thing. It’s less about winning and more about reading people, chatting music, and making those connections. You know, much like you did previously in Coffee Talk.
Digging Through Crates And Figuring Things Out
There’s a bit more going on than just handing over records too. You’ll be piecing together clues from conversations, browsing through albums, checking bits of in-game media. And you’re doing this in order to land on the right recommendation.
See, there are loads of made-up bands and records in here, each with their own weird little bits of lore. Some of will be funny, some oddly believable, but it all helps sell the world.
And yeah, it’s not all work either. You’ll mess about with colleagues, get involved in bits around the shop, and just generally soak in the atmosphere. That’s part of the reasoning behind us including Wax Heads in our ‘Best Games of May’ article.
It’s All About The Music
The soundtrack is a big deal, as you’d expect. There are loads of original tracks covering all sorts of styles, and they’re not just background noise; they’re very much a part of the identity of the game.
If you’ve played anything from this kind of cozy sim space before, you’ll know what to expect. There’s no pressure, no rush, and nothing too taxing. Wax Heads is about spending time in the world, chatting to people, and helping this little record shop tick over.
Worth A Spin?
Wax Heads isn’t trying to be flashy or overcomplicated. It’s small, but full of charm. If you like music, adore a bit of narrative, or just fancy something a little more laid-back, this could be one to check out.
Our review is on the way, but you’ll find Wax Heads on the usual storefronts right now. Like the Xbox Store for instance. There’s Play Anywhere support which is nice.
