Westlanders
Westlanders – coming to Xbox, PlayStation and PC

It’s time to stake your claim on the frontier. The survival genre is heading back to the 19th century in Westlanders, a wildly ambitious new title that challenges you to tame the American West.

Announced by The Breach Studios in partnership with Radical Theory (the team behind Rooftops & Alleys), this open-world survival, crafting, and management game is saddling up for a release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Revealed alongside its first gameplay trailer, Westlanders promises a deep sandbox experience that blends the grit of survival with the satisfaction of town-building, all playable solo or in co-op with a posse of friends.

Taming the Frontier

While the Wild West is a staple of action games, it remains surprisingly unexplored in the survival-crafting genre. Westlanders aims to fill that gap by immersing players in a hostile environment inspired by 19th-century North America.

You aren’t just a lone gunslinger here; you are a pioneer. The core loop goes beyond basic survival against the ruthless elements. You must master technologies, build entire villages from scratch, establish trade routes, and utilise resources to civilise the hostile lands.

Whether you are fighting off dangers lurking in the wilderness or managing the economy of your budding settlement, the goal is to conquer the West, not just live through it.

A Roadmap Built on Community

The developers have outlined a transparent, three-phase roadmap designed to put players at the heart of the development process. Rather than a traditional secretive launch, The Breach Studios is opting for a community-driven approach:

  • Kickstarter Campaign (Early 2026): A crowdfunding initiative to unite the community and gather initial feedback.
  • Early Access: A period spanning several months where backers and early adopters can play the game and shape its evolution.
  • Full Release (V1.0): The grand global launch on PC and next-gen consoles.

Importantly, the studio notes that the Early Access version is already funded. The Kickstarter isn’t about keeping the lights on; it’s about building a dedicated community to help tune the mechanics.

Voices form the Trail

Ferran Punti, CEO of The Breach Studios, emphasised this collaborative philosophy: “We want to create a game that evolves thanks to those who play it. Kickstarter and Early Access will allow us to work hand in hand with motivated, invested, and passionate players.

Luc Heninger, CEO of Radical Theory, added that the unique setting was a major draw for the partnership: “Westlanders won us over in the first few minutes of gameplay… We have a true sandbox experience here that will allow players from all backgrounds to experiment with rich, deep mechanics. The idea is to have a blast with friends, as we want players to dive into building, fighting, and resource management in co-op as quickly as possible.

Summary of Key Features

  • Genre: Open-World Survival, Crafting, and City Builder.
  • Setting: A hostile, 19th-century Wild West environment.
  • Modes: Playable Solo or Co-op.
  • Gameplay Loop: Survive the elements, build villages, and establish trade routes.
  • Roadmap: Kickstarter in Early 2026, followed by Early Access, leading to a V1.0 Console Launch.

The wagon train is moving out, and the journey is just beginning. With its unique blend of management depth and survival grit, Westlanders is shaping up to be a fresh take on a beloved setting. Keep your eyes on the horizon for the Kickstarter campaign launching early next year.
