Bubsy in The Purrfect Collection – game list revealed

Right then, gather ’round cool cats and kittens! Prepare yourselves, because Atari and the preservation pioneers at Limited Run Games have just dropped the yarn ball on what exactly we’ll be playing in Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection.

That’s right, Bubsy T. Bobcat, the mascot who embodies the chaotic energy of the 90s platformer wars like no other, is getting a comprehensive playable history lesson on modern consoles!

We already knew this collection was clawing its way back, but now we know which specific slices of Bubsy’s… unique… legacy are included. Get ready for this fur-midable lineup heading to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam:

  • Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind: The one that started it all! Includes the SEGA Genesis, Super Nintendo, and Super Famicom versions.
  • Bubsy II: The sequel doubled down, and you’ll get the Game Boy, SEGA Genesis, and Super Nintendo versions here.
  • Bubsy in Fractured Furry Tales: Time for a real deep cut! The Atari Jaguar exclusive finally escapes its original hardware confines.
  • Bubsy 3D: Oh yes, they went there. The infamous PlayStation 1 foray into the third dimension, often cited as… well, let’s just say it’s memorable.

That’s a whole lot of Bubsy across various platforms, all bundled into one convenient (and hopefully stable) package.

Carbon Engine: Making Bubsy Bearable?

Handling the delicate task of bringing these classics to modern hardware is Limited Run Games’ own Carbon Engine team. They’re not just slapping these games onto an emulator; the promise is a careful update process.

This means smoothing out some of those notoriously rough edges Bubsy games were known for, implementing new quality-of-life features, and technical upgrades to make them play better on your shiny new consoles and PCs.

Crucially, though, they aim to stay true to the quirky “catitude” and core gameplay that defined Bubsy – for better or worse.

Alongside the games themselves, the collection will feature historical artifacts and interviews, offering insights into the creation and, shall we say, enduring legacy of this feisty feline. It’s pitched as the ultimate celebration and a great opportunity for fans and newcomers alike to experience Bubsy’s fur-tastic catalogue.

What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

Even Bubsy himself chimed in on the announcement: “Here we go again! I’m pawsitively pumped to bring my collection of purrfectly preserved pixels to cool cats everywhere,” said Bubsy T. Bobcat (probably via a heavily filtered microphone). “Hold onto your whiskers and get ready for a glide down memory lane, polished and pampered for your playing pleasure. What could possibly go wrong?

Famous last words, Bubsy. Famous last words.

Collection Highlights

  • Playable History: Experience Bubsy’s core adventures across multiple platforms.
  • Rare Gems Included: Features the Atari Jaguar Fractured Furry Tales and the notorious Bubsy 3D.
  • Carbon Engine Powered: Modern updates, QoL features, and technical upgrades while preserving the originals.
  • Historical Context: Includes artifacts and interviews about the franchise.

Wishlist if You Dare

Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection doesn’t have a firm release date beyond “coming soon” (within 2025) on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Switch, and PC (Steam), and no price has been announced yet. But if you’re brave enough, or perhaps just morbidly curious, you can head over to Steam and wishlist it now.

Will this collection finally give Bubsy the respect he thinks he deserves? Or will it just unleash more chaos upon the gaming world? Either way, we’ll be watching (possibly from behind the sofa). Stay tuned for more news and a release date as they come in.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
