There are plenty of horror games that rely on jump scares and monsters lurking around every corner. Don’t expect that from What have you done, Father? though.
Launching today on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC, this psychological thriller drops players into a gloomy 1940s Transylvanian rectory where guilt, temptation and murder intertwine in a story that looks more interested in getting under your skin than making you leap from your seat.
Originally released on PC to Very Positive user reviews, the console debut arrives with enhanced visuals and refinements designed specifically for console players, giving a wider audience the chance to uncover the truth behind one priest’s darkest secret.

A Priest At The Centre Of A Mystery
In What have you done, Father?, players step into the shoes of Father Mathias Marton, a respected priest whose life begins to unravel after a forbidden affair takes a devastating turn.
A woman has been found dead within the rectory walls, and the questions begin piling up almost immediately. Who was she? What happened to her? Why does her presence still linger throughout the building? And perhaps most importantly, what role did Father Mathias play in the tragedy?
Drawing inspiration from classic noir cinema, including Alfred Hitchcock’s I Confess, the game combines investigation, exploration and psychological storytelling as players piece together a mystery steeped in guilt, faith and redemption.
Exploring The Shadows Of The Rectory
Much of the experience revolves around exploring the rectory itself, a place filled with hidden histories and uncomfortable truths.
As players move through its corridors and rooms, they’ll uncover journals, notes, photographs and other clues that gradually reveal the troubled past of both the building and its inhabitants. Along the way, conversations with suspicious characters help flesh out the story, while light puzzle-solving keeps the investigation moving forward.
There are also supernatural undertones woven throughout the narrative, ensuring that not every mystery has a simple explanation.
Rather than focusing on combat or action, What have you done, Father? appears to be built around atmosphere and storytelling, creating tension through uncertainty and moral ambiguity.
A Well-Received PC Thriller Comes To Consoles
While this may be a brand-new arrival for console audiences, the game first launched on PC (Steam) in 2024, where it earned a strong reception from players attracted to its unusual setting and narrative-driven approach.
For this console release, publisher Making Port has worked alongside Darkania Works to improve visuals, refine usability and expand language support, helping ensure the experience feels at home across Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
At just ÂŁ9.19, it also arrives at a price point that should make it an easy proposition, especially for fans of shorter narrative adventures and psychological mysteries.
A Different Kind Of Horror Experience
Not every horror game needs grotesque monsters or endless chase sequences. Sometimes the most unsettling stories are those rooted in human weakness, guilt and difficult choices.
And that’s exactly what What have you done, Father? looks set to deliver. The game is available today on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Play Anywhere (through the Xbox Store), PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
Unfortunately, at launch, you won’t find What have you done, Father? on Game Pass.
