Tonguç Bodur is slowly making waves in the videogame industry. After having created the likes of Drizzlepath: Deja Vu and Lucid Cycle, Bodur now joins forces with Eastasiasoft once more to deliver the soul-searching journey of The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna to console. It promises to be another one that is well worth checking out.

Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch, The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna follows on from previous surreal Bodur moments to provide players with an experience that brings together elements of both first and third person exploration, with some cinematic narrative, puzzle-based adventures and the spectacle of the humble walking simulator.

It’s priced at £8.39 and will see you thrust into the life of a university graduate who has returned home. But he finds it empty, deserted, yet full of visions from the past. It’s up to you to make note of the weirdness that is going on, hunting down clues, piecing things together and uncovering the mystery at hand.

Sold as an immersive experience, The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna attempts many things; many that would normally be let go by inidie development teams for fear of failure. But Tonguç Bodur is different, happily taking on atmospheric feels in hope that things stick.

A quick look at the trailer and visuals should give full understanding as to what will play out in The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna and if you’re set on a new adventure that mixes many elements, it’s surely one to check.

We’ll be looking to follow up this piece with our full thoughts as to how The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna plays out on Xbox Series X|S in the very near future. For now though you can grab a download of the game from the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S – with this optimised for next-gen and making the most of Smart Delivery to allow for the finest version no matter what your console of choice. It’s also on Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PS5.

Game Description:

Fantasy combines with cruel reality in one man’s journey to learn the truth surrounding his derelict hometown! Witness the soul-searching journey of a university graduate as he returns to the village where he grew up. Upon his arrival, he finds the place deserted and instead witnesses visions of an incident that happened there some time ago, including another’s return to the village unaware of what lay before them. These visions are of various times and places, leaving the player to search for clues and unravel the surrounding mystery. The Dead Tree of Ranchiuna is an immersive experience that explores how unfair society can be, both in a direct and realistic manner and with the power of fantasy elements, symbolism and abstract storytelling. Play in first or third person, navigating detailed environments across a huge seamless map. Solve puzzles, discover hidden dialogue through careful exploration and unlock new post-game features to extend the experience!

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
