No pressure, no reflex tests, just you, a grid of letters and the quiet satisfaction of spotting that final hidden word. That just about sums up Word Quest Fantasy, as this one arrives by wrapping it in a light fantasy theme and dropping it onto Xbox for the bargain price of £1.69.
Available now on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, this latest release from Gametry continues a growing line of themed word puzzlers… but not without a bit of baggage from those that came before it.

A Familiar Quest, With A Fantasy Coat Of Paint
At its core, Word Quest Fantasy is exactly what you’d expect; a series of word search puzzles set across a loosely themed fantasy world. You’ll scan grids for hidden words, ticking them off as you go, all while the game dresses things up with mentions of castles, swords and magical adventures.
It’s light, easy to pick up, and doesn’t ask much from the player beyond patience and a decent eye for detail. There’s no real complexity here, no evolving mechanics or surprises. Just puzzle after puzzle to work through at your own pace.
A Series With A History
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Gametry explore this formula. Previous entries like Word Quest Pirates and Word Quest Medieval have followed a very similar structure, offering themed variations on the same core idea.
And if we’re being honest, that familiarity can be a bit of a double-edged sword.
In our review of Word Quest Pirates, we noted: “It’s a Groundhog Day of the same puzzles, the same words, and the same layouts.”
That’s a sentiment that may well carry over here, depending on how much variety Word Quest Fantasy manages to bring to the table.
Cheap, Cheerful… And Repetitive?
At £1.69, it’s hard to argue with the price point. This is very much positioned as a budget-friendly, low-commitment puzzle game, something you can dip into for a few minutes at a time.
But as with others in the series, the question isn’t just about cost. It’s about longevity. Word searches can quickly become repetitive if there’s little variation in layout or challenge, and that’s been a sticking point before.
If you’re after something relaxing and undemanding, Word Quest Fantasy will likely do the job. If you’re hoping for depth or innovation… you may need to temper expectations.
Decide for yourself by picking it up from the Xbox Store. It’s certainly cheap enough.
