World of warships Legends 6th Anniversary is go!

The cannons are firing in celebration as World of Warships: Legends marks six incredible years on the high seas.

Wargaming is kicking off the birthday festivities with a huge, free anniversary update for all players on Xbox and PlayStation. This special update is headlined by the game’s first-ever campaign with completely free Admiralty Backing, a new wave of ‘Blue Archive’ content, and a shipload of rewards.

This massive content drop is a thank you to the millions of players who have set sail over the past six years and is the perfect reason to return to the naval battlefield.

Six Years on the Seven Seas

It’s hard to believe it’s been six years since World of Warships: Legends first launched on console. We were impressed with it right from the start, saying in our original 2019 review that it “delivers another fantastic showing from the ‘World of’ series on console and ensures that players have an engaging and accessible title that can be enjoyed for hours on end.

Six years later, the game is still going strong, and this anniversary update is a testament to Wargaming’s continued support and commitment to the community that has made it a success.

Set Sail on the ‘Party Around the World’ Campaign

The headline act of this anniversary celebration is a brand-new Legendary campaign with a very special twist.

For the first time ever, the Admiralty Backing for the “Party Around the World” campaign is completely free for all players. This means everyone can work their way through the 100 milestones to unlock the full slate of special rewards. Waiting at the end of the campaign is a choice between two powerful Tier VIII Premium ships: the Japanese destroyer Minegumo or the Pan-European battleship Niord.

The free campaign is just the beginning. The anniversary update is packed with new content and events.

For instance, the popular ‘Blue Archive’ collaboration is back for a second wave. Available from August 11th until September 8th, this event introduces three new ships to the game:

  • Tier VIII Premium French cruiser BA Utnapishtim’s Ship
  • Tier VI Premium Italian battleship BA Binah
  • Tier VII Premium Soviet battleship BA Hovercraft Three new themed Commanders – Hayase Yuuka, Konuri Maki, and Kosaka Wakamo – are also available to lead these new vessels.

Birthday Mayhem

To celebrate six years of legendary action, a special Birthday Mayhem Calendar arrives in the game, featuring three weeks’ worth of rewards.

Players can also earn a special event currency, Piñatitas, which can be exchanged for birthday-themed items, including two new ships: the Pan-Asian Tier VII Premium cruiser Irian and the British Tier V Premium cruiser Dido.

A Fresh Coat of Paint

Beyond the new content, this update also introduces a host of visual improvements to the game, with enhanced scenery, weather, lighting, and water effects. For PlayStation 5 users, the game now supports a full 4K resolution at 60 FPS, with Ray Tracing also available for PS5 Pro users, ensuring the naval battles look better than ever.

The anniversary celebrations are officially underway, and the seas are filled with new ships, new challenges, and a treasure trove of free rewards. Whether you’re a seasoned admiral or a new recruit, there’s never been a better time to set sail and join the party.

The update is live now. Go dive in.

If you don’t yet have a copy of World of Warships: Legends on Xbox, just head over to the Xbox Store and nab a download. It’s free to play.
