World War Z Heavy Ordnance

The horde is about to face some serious new firepower. A massive new free content drop, the Heavy Ordnance Update, has been deployed for World War Z.

This latest update from developer Saber Interactive raises the stakes for the ultimate co-op zombie shooter, introducing a wealth of new perks, gameplay modifiers, and premium cosmetics for slayers on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

This completely free update is a testament to the ongoing support for the game, offering fresh tactical considerations for veteran and rookie zombie hunters alike.

Unleash the Heavy Ordnance: A FREE Gameplay Overhaul

The core of today’s update is a significant expansion of your zombie-slaying toolkit, available to all players at no cost.

For the first time, heavy weapons are getting their own perk system. You can now unlock three new perks for each of the game’s eight heavy weapons, including fan-favourites like the Chainsaw, Flamethrower, and Multi-shot Rocket Launcher. These perks offer a wide variety of tactical bonuses and trade-offs, adding a new layer of strategy and risk/reward to your loadout choices. 12 new standard weapon perks have also been added.

New Challenge Horde Mode Mutators

Six chaotic new mutators have been added to the Challenge Horde Mode rotation, designed to keep you on your toes:

  • Dead Pirate: Zekes stay animated for a short time after a headshot.
  • Paralytic Toxin: Taking melee damage will slow you down.
  • Ouch!: Getting grabbed by a special infected will cause a random grenade in your inventory to explode.
  • Sharing is Caring: Using a medkit now applies its effect to all team members.
  • Arm Weakness: You are unable to use heavy weapons during Zeke waves.
  • Slot Machine (Permanent Mutator): All purchasable defense kits are now randomized.

Style Your Slaughter: New Premium Weapon Skins

For players looking to add some extra flair to their arsenal, two new premium weapon skin packs are also available for purchase today:

  • Vibrant Halloween Weapon Skin Pack: Serve up scares and style with these colourful new skins for the Mini-21 Scout Rifle, Paladin LMG, Keris V10 Advanced SMG, AUR Universal Bullpup Rifle, and the SchreiTech Forest Warrior Chainsaw.
  • Raging Phoenix Weapon Skin Pack: Unleash your fury with fiery new looks for the Gal9 Compact SMG, ARK-103 Assault Rifle, Thumper GL Grenade Launcher, Taiga-12 Heavy Assault Shotgun, and the Flamethrower.

More Reasons to Keep Coming Back

World War Z has continued to evolve since its launch, building upon its chaotic, swarm-filled foundations. The Aftermath expansion was a huge step forward, and this Heavy Ordnance update continues that momentum. In our 4/5 scored review of World War Z: Aftermath, we praised its replayability, stating:

World War Z: Aftermath is the most substantial, and impressive update yet… its short, sharp, big budget playstyle is building momentum through replayability, pushing this into a must have title… there are more reasons than ever for players to keep coming back for more.

This latest free update, with its focus on deepening weapon customization through perks and adding wild new mutators, provides even more of those reasons to keep coming back. It’s a significant enhancement that promises to change the way you approach every single firefight.

The swarm never stops, but now, neither does your arsenal. It’s time to gear up, test out some new perks, and show the horde what heavy ordnance really means. The free update is live now.
