The most exciting yearly event in wrestling is almost here; the fun-filled and often surprise-laden Royal Rumble. So, with WWE Royal Rumble 2021 taking place on 31st January, I decided to play out the planned match-ups via the over-the-top action of WWE 2K Battlegrounds. Want to know how I see it going down at the Rumble and whether the encounters actually unfolded that way in WWE 2K Battlegrounds?
Looking at the matches announced, the title bout seeing Drew McIntyre go up against the legendary Goldberg is a tough one to call. Let’s be honest, Bill could easily cause an upset as we’ve seen it happen before. The tag match involving champs Asuka and Charlotte Flair should end with them holding onto the belts until Mania comes around. Given that Shayna Baszler isn’t on the WWE 2K Battlegrounds roster, I had to improvise by choosing another former MMA fighter in her place.Â
Moving on though, and if the in-game battles are anything to go by, we’re in for a brutal match between Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens, with weapons aplenty causing damage. Obviously, the ‘Big Dog’ Reigns will surely claim victory here, unless there’s a bit of outside interference. As for the Men’s and Women’s Royal Rumble matches, there are too many unknown variants to pick a genuine frontrunner. That being said, I went for AJ Styles and Bayley, however I do believe they’ll both be won by mystery entrants.
Check out the official match card for the WWE Royal Rumble 2021 event (with my picks in BOLD):
- Men’s Royal Rumble match – AJ Styles
- Women’s Royal Rumble match – Bayley
- Last Man Standing match for the WWE Universal Championship – Roman Reigns (c) vs. Kevin Owens
- Singles match for the WWE Championship – Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Goldberg
- Tag team match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship – Asuka and Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler
- Singles match for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship – Sasha Banks (c) vs. Carmella
You can watch WWE Royal Rumble 2021 live on the WWE Network this Sunday 31st January, starting with pre-show hype at 10pm (GMT) before the main show kicks at midnight!
