The Dragon of Dojima’s past is about to be rewritten, and a new legend is ready to rise from the shadows.

During their RGG Summit 2025 livestream, SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have officially announced Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, a massive two-in-one experience coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC on February 12th, 2026.

This incredible package, created to celebrate the series’ 20th anniversary, features a full, ground-up remake of the beloved Yakuza 3, alongside Dark Ties, a brand-new, never-before-seen prequel story where you play as one of the original game’s most formidable antagonists.

A New Legend Reborn

The Yakuza (or Like a Dragon) series is home to some of the most compelling stories and characters in all of gaming, a fact we know well from our own attempts at ranking the incredible games in the franchise.

The Kiwami project has been a fantastic way to bring the classic Kazuma Kiryu saga to a modern audience, and the announcement of Yakuza Kiwami 3 is a hugely exciting and essential next step in that journey.

A Tale of Two Dragons: The Kiwami 3 Experience

This is more than just a simple remaster; Yakuza Kiwami 3 has been completely rebuilt from the ground up, evolving every aspect of the beloved title.

The story once again follows Kazuma Kiryu and his adoptive daughter Haruka Sawamura as they attempt to leave their past behind and run the Morning Glory Orphanage in the tropical paradise of Okinawa. But when the Tojo Clan and local politics threaten their peaceful life, Kiryu must once again fight to defend the things he cares about most.

The combat has been massively enhanced with two powerful and distinct fighting styles:

  • Dragon of Dojima: Kiwami: A brawling action style with the largest number of attack techniques in the series’ history.
  • Ryukyu Style: A brand-new, technical, weapon-based style inspired by traditional Okinawan weapon arts, allowing you to use eight different types of weapons.

On top of that, a new team battle mode, “Legendary Baddie, Bad Boy Dragon,” will have you building the ultimate biker gang to protect the streets of Okinawa.

A New Legacy Begins: The Dark Ties Experience

Included as a completely separate game in the package is Dark Ties, a brand-new story that lets you see the world from the other side of the conflict.

For the first time ever, fans can step into the shoes of Yoshitaka Mine, one of Kiryu’s most formidable foes from Yakuza 3. This prequel story depicts the events leading up to the main game, shedding new light on Mine’s origins and his descent into the world of the yakuza.

Mine features his own stylish and refined combat system centered around boxing. You can also unleash his inner darkness in the new “Dark Awakening” mode, triggering a ruthless rampage of relentless combos. An all-new underground fight club, the “Hell’s Arena,” will also be available for you to test your skills.

Pre-Orders and More Anniversary Celebrations

Pre-orders for Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties are available now. Pre-ordering will net you the exclusive “Ryukyu Gal Gang – Ichiban Legendary Lad” DLC, which adds the popular Like a Dragon hero Ichiban Kasuga to the new team battle mode. A Digital Deluxe edition with a host of other cosmetic and BGM track packs is also available.

To further celebrate the 20th anniversary, RGG Studio also announced that modern versions of Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2, and Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut will be coming to Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC on December 8, 2025.

Two incredible stories, one legendary package. For fans of the Yakuza series, this is an unmissable new chapter that both beautifully remakes a classic and tells a brand-new, essential story. The wait for the return to Okinawa begins now.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
