Your decisions will matter in Phantom Doctrine on Xbox One, PS4 and PC

2026's Best Games

We’ve been told many times over that our decisions really do matter, but that has never been truer than when put into context within Phantom Doctrine… and today not only has a new trailer dropped, but a full release date is known.

Coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC on August 14th 2018, Phantom Doctrine is a turn-based espionage strategy title from Polish indie developers, CreativeForge. It tells the tale of the leader of a covert organisation battling a global conspiracy at the height of the Cold War. And it is here where you come in, needing to master operating in the shadows against overwhelming odds.

You’ll get the chance to train your agents, investigate new cases, and ensure that the research of cutting-edge tech comes from your base, all before you take time to infiltrate enemy facilities, eliminate their assets with stealth or brute force, and uncover their schemes.

Phantom Doctrine promises to bring a deep single-player mode that offers two different perspectives. You’ll either be able to experience the story as a KGB counterintelligence operative or a renegade CIA commando. The inclusion of a New Game Plus modes runs past the game’s 40-hour campaign bringing with it additional story content. Failing that, you’ll be able to challenge rivals around the world in ruthless one-on-one online multiplayer matches. If you want something that captures the subtle tension and intrigue of classic Cold War spy films with atmospheric visuals and an unnerving soundtrack from award-winning composer Marcin Przybylowicz (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt), then Phantom Doctrine should be for you.

Phantom Doctrine will arrive for £29.99, with a 10% launch discount across all platforms. Those playing around in PC-land will also be able purchase the Deluxe Version of Phantom Doctrine, which includes the game’s soundtrack and a digital art book (available separately), for £34.20.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
