Grit and Valor 1949 – out now

What if World War II didn’t end in 1945? What if it raged on, but with giant, diesel-powered mechs rewriting the rules of engagement? A new real-time tactics roguelite that explores that very question has just marched onto consoles.

Grit and Valor – 1949 is from developer Milky Tea and publisher Megabit, and it has launched today. This alternate-history showdown is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and the Epic Games Store.

An Alternate History, A Desperate Mission

Prepare to command an elite squad of resistance mech pilots, make split-second tactical decisions, and take a stand to liberate Europe from the technologically superior forces of the Evil Axis.

The year is 1949. Europe has been brought to its knees by the Axis, who have seized control using giant, intimidating mechanized warriors. Survivors are few but have regrouped under the flag of The Resistance. You are the free world’s last hope, tasked with a deadly mission: deliver a devastating EMP weapon into the heart of enemy territory and turn the tide of the war.

Command Your Mech Squad

Your battlefield is a chessboard of chaos. You must deploy your squad of mechs and command them in real-time to fend off waves of enemies.

Each new battlefield presents a unique challenge, and you’ll need to think fast to use higher ground and cover, exploit enemy weaknesses, and utilise every tactical advantage to withstand the assault and defend your all-important Command Vehicle.

This is a roguelite, and failure is not the end, but a chance to re-arm. If your Command Vehicle is destroyed, your mission is over, but you will regroup at the Resistance Base. The Scrap and Valor you earned in the field can be used for permanent upgrades to your mechs and pilot abilities. But prepare for the unexpected; the battlefields, the enemies you face, and the rewards you receive will never be the same twice.

At the end of each run, you’ll need to make one last stand against a menacing Axis General, piloting a Kaiju-sized Boss Mech. These encounters will have you facing overwhelming odds, waves of elite enemies, and new hazards that will push your tactical skills to the limit.

A Surprise New Dimension: The VR Edition

To coincide with the console launch, the team at Milky Tea has joined forces with the VR experts at nDreams to create a VR edition of the game; running as a free update for all PC and PlayStation 5 owners.

This version reimagines the game’s dynamic real-time tactics, giving players the chance to get up close and personal with the battlefield in a whole new reality.

“It’s a source of great pride to bring Grit & Valor – 1949 to consoles, VR and Epic today; the product of a true team effort alongside Megabit and nDreams,” said Kevin Campbell, Producer at Milky Tea. “We’ve loved seeing the PC gaming community engage with the game since its March launch, and we’re extremely excited for more players to experience the world of Grit and Valor across a host of new platforms.”

“We’re thrilled to be bringing Grit and Valor – 1949 to more platforms,” added David Corless, Chief Publishing Officer at Megabit. “Today’s launches showcase the creative ambition and collaborative spirit of Milky Tea and nDreams and we’re excited to give more would-be commanders the opportunity to experience Grit and Valor’s unique take on mech warfare.”

The VR edition will also be available for purchase separately on the Meta Quest store.
