Space Chef – coming to Xbox and PlayStation

Get your space-spatulas ready – Space Chef is coming to Xbox and PlayStation.

Publisher Kwalee and independent Swedish developer BlueGooGames have cooked up some exciting news: their genre-bending cooking adventure Space Chef is officially heading to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5!

These new console versions are planned to launch later this year alongside the previously announced PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and Nintendo Switch releases. This is a game that has made the most of some Kickstarter backing

Space Chef promises a delightful three-course meal of gameplay, blending restaurant management, light survival RPG elements, and life sim mechanics, all wrapped up in the zany universe of the Horseshoe Nebula.

You play as the galaxy’s next top chef, tasked with seeking out exotic ingredients across alien worlds, cooking cosmic creations, and serving hungry customers from your customisable space-trailer restaurant.

Xbox & PlayStation Versions Served Up!

To celebrate the console announcement, a brand-new gameplay trailer has been released, showcasing exciting features. Notably, it reveals a new ‘sit-in restaurant’ mode, giving players the freedom to ditch the delivery runs, set their own menu, choose opening hours, and welcome patrons aboard their trailer.

The trailer also highlights the extensive interior decoration and customisation options available for creating the space diner of your dreams.

Cook, Explore, Survive: A Genre-Bending Space Adventure

But Space Chef is more than just cooking. You’ll explore diverse planets brimming with weird and wonderful creatures and plants to hunt and harvest (if they don’t hunt you first!). Discover derelict space stations, ancient ruins, and gather resources to upgrade your gear, kitchen equipment, and spaceship.

Back in the kitchen (or space-trailer), you’ll tackle over 140 recipes through fast-paced cooking minigames. Impress a colourful cast of NPCs – including potential romance options like scrap dealer Zoe or faded Space Ace Jack Bronzon – who offer unique quests and rewards.

All this unfolds against a backdrop narrative involving your missing grandma and a rivalry with the monolithic Galactic Burger corporation.

Can’t wait to get a taste? While the console versions are set for later in 2025, a free playable demo is available right now on Steam, letting PC players sample the culinary chaos.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
