Protecting Earth from a band of alien machines sounds awfully familiar, and whilst Robo Revenge Squad may not have Optimus and the gang to help you out, the action on offer with this new release comes in spades.
Releasing today on Xbox and Switch, with a PlayStation arrival date TBA, Robo Revenge Squad tasks you with building a crack team of robots to defend Earth with, against a similarly crack team of alien robots! Anything you can find can be used as a weapon in the post-apocalyptic world we find ourselves in, from a tennis ball launcher as a ranged weapon, to the classic baseball bat melee option. Aesthetically, your machines will also go for a hodge-podge look, being decked out with disco balls for heads, 1950s-style fridges for a body, and a lawnmower for rapid movement across the battlefield.
In both tone and art direction, one may be reminded of C.A.T.S. – the mobile robot battling game that took the mobile world by storm a few years back. But where that portable cult classic was limited by its platform, on Xbox and Robot Revenge Squad you can bring along up to three mates for the ride. With a number of campaigns to work your way through, as well as puzzles and special objectives, it’s probably for the better that different robots can have different playstyles.
To truly master Robo Revenge Squad, it will be a case of synergising your robots together: do you want to play the role of the brute in the team, or hang back and provide supporting fire from afar?
The choice really is yours, and as you level up you will unlock tons of weapons and gadgets to deliver a robotic spanking with.
