Play 3 generations of games on 1 console as Backwards Compatibility extends to Original Xbox games

3

Whether you’re an old school Xbox veteran or one of the many who has just joined the game with Xbox One, for many the Xbox Backwards Compatible scheme is a bit of a god-send. Allowing you to play a huge number of Xbox 360 games on Xbox One, it has gone down a treat. But now the whole Back-Compat deal is getting better, as a number of Original Xbox titles have also become playable on Xbox One.

Starting from October 24th 2017, you’ll find the Xbox Backward Compatible scheme will extend to include Original Xbox games, and with the likes of Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and the awesome Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic included, it’s a great time to be a gamer.

The 13 OG Xbox titles will take advantage of the power of Xbox One, with an increase up to 4 times the pixel count, with that increasing to 16 times when Xbox One X arrives. But don’t expect these to bring you achievements or online adventures, because they won’t. However if they ran with offline co-op and system link opportunities, then those will still be in place.

The first batch of Original Xbox games to make use of the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility program will be as follows:

  • BLACK
  • BloodRayne 2
  • Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
  • Dead to Rights
  • Fuzion Frenzy
  • Grabbled by the Ghoulies
  • King of Fighters Neowave
  • Ninja Gaiden Black – Free with Xbox Game Pass
  • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
  • Psychonauts
  • Red Faction II
  • Sid Meier’s Pirates!
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

More will be released in the Spring of 2018.

What’s more, when Xbox One X releases on 7th Nov 2017, you’ll be able to run select Xbox 360 games at higher resolution, 9 times the original pixel count, and with expanded colour details. Halo 3, Fallout 3, Oblivion and Assassin’s Creed will all make the most of the enhanced options.

Fantastic news – wonder if they’ll have the games available to buy digitally? I don’t have my physical copies any more…

It seems the Major has gone a bit early on his news piece and removed it from his site. I can’t 100% confirm it but I believe digital is a thing 🙂

Digital is a thing and I believe the going price is £6.75/$9.99. Hoping they throw in the odd one or two as part of the Games with Gold though
