From the moment a new wrestling game is announced, speculation is rife about who should be on the roster and why certain people won’t be. Now, I know it is very early days for the WWE 2K17 roster to be taking any kind of shape, but after a long and hard thought process… I’ve decided these five Superstars simply have to make the cut.
Oh it’s true, it’s DAMN TRUE! The Olympic gold medallist needs to be included in the latest WWE game, especially after Brock Lesnar was announced as the cover star. As we all know from past experience, the cover star is generally a focus in the Showcase mode. Can there really be a Brock Lesnar Showcase without recreating the WrestleMania XIX moment between the two of them? I doubt it. Even if the speculation about the Showcase proves to be untrue, every long term fan would love to see Angle make an appearance regardless. After all, he’s not tied down to TNA anymore, so what’s to stop it happening?
It’s very rare that a talent can debut with such an impact as Nakamura made in his first match against Sami Zayn at NXT Takeover: Dallas. After arguably a match of the year candidate, where the ‘King of Strong Style’ showed off a fascinating moveset and array of taunts, I realised how much I would enjoy using his character to freshen up the wrestling game experience. Couple this with his charisma and adrenaline pumping entrance, and you’re looking at a key representative of the NXT brand. Despite only being with the WWE for a short while, Shinsuke Nakamura deserves a place in my eyes.
Although Eddie’s motto of lying, cheating and stealing doesn’t go down too well in the PG era of wrestling, I think it’s time we saw him return to the WWE game series after two years out. Not only will he serve a purpose in a particular Showcase mentioned above, but as a legend of the business, I see no reason why Eddie Guerrero shouldn’t be on the roster, even if just to preserve the legacy he left behind.
‘Heyyyy we want some Bayyyyley!‘ is what the crowd at Full Sail chant incessantly whenever she hits the ring. It was a shock not to see her feature in WWE 2K16 as DLC at the very least, but with her fellow horsewomen, whom were already on the main roster in reality, not making the cut it was easier to take on the chin. Now that Sasha, Becky and Charlotte are almost all nailed on for WWE 2K17, the former NXT Women’s Champion has surely earned a big enough reputation to warrant a spot.
It’s a bit controversial this one, considering the unceremonious departure of CM Punk from the WWE. However, given that he was in a substantial feud with Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman not so long ago (2013 if you don’t remember), there’s absolutely no point in doing a Showcase on Lesnar without including Punk. Let’s be honest, most people would mark out at the reveal of CM Punk and it’d garner a whole load of extra attention for WWE 2K17.
I’m sure WWE will have their reasons should they decide against including any or all of the above Superstars, both past and present. Most of it hinges on how much of the game is centred on the cover star. Do you agree on my choices? Who do you think deserves to be in WWE 2K17 that didn’t get a spot last year? Let us know in the comments.
