Wilmot’s Warehouse unboxes today on Game Pass, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S

Having already claimed a cult following on the PC and Switch, Wilmot’s Warehouse comes out today on Xbox One and Series X|S. More importantly, it’s also available on Game Pass, leaving very few barriers to giving this a go and seeing what the fuss is about.

Wilmot’s Warehouse is undoubtedly a puzzler, but it doesn’t take the usual approach of matching lines or squares.

You are Wilmot, a little face in a top-down warehouse, and you are given stacks of produce to store. It’s never quite clear what the icons on the boxes represent, and that’s largely up to you to interpret. You will want to store things where they can be easily reclaimed and remembered, as the next stage will put your system – whether it was alphabetical, chronological or Dewey Decimal – to the test.

People come to your warehouse and make requests for the items. It’s a bit like running an inner city Argos, as they ask for five igloos, perhaps, or a stack of rubber duckies. Did you remember where you put them? Do you have enough?

It might sound frantic, like working at Amazon over a Coronavirus-hit Christmas, but it’s actually relatively chilled. There’s a lovely and sedate electronic score, and the requests don’t come so thick and fast that they leave no room for error.

The most fun can be had with the two-player cooperative variant that plays a bit like a lo-fi Overcooked, as you coordinate in an attempt to get the orders exactly right.

Features include:

  • Unique relaxing gameplay.
  • 500 possible products to stock.
  • All manner of upgrades and perks.
  • Splitscreen 2 player co-op: Work in tandem to organize the warehouse with a friend.
  • Customise your game with Expert Mode for an extra challenge.
  • Sublime electronic music to listen to while you decide whether wellington boots belong in the footwear section, or with the umbrellas.

This is a perennial favourite in our house on the Switch, so we can provisionally recommend it before our review of the Xbox version hits in the near future.

Wilmot’s Warehouse is out now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S and starts at £12.49 from the Xbox Store. Of course, it’s free to play on Xbox Game Pass, and it’s also been out for some time on Switch and PC.

Game Description:

Wilmot’s Warehouse is a puzzle game about keeping a warehouse running in tip-top shape. You play as Wilmot, a hard working warehouse employee tasked with pushing, sorting and stacking a variety of products. Over time more and more truckloads of these products will arrive, gradually filling up the warehouse. How you arrange them all is entirely up to you – organize by color, type, the Dewey Decimal System, or some wild format that only you understand – it’s all good! Just remember where you put everything, because when the service hatch opens, you’ll need to find the things people want quickly, in order to earn the coveted Performance Stars required for all manner of labor-saving upgrades.
