Smash Boats: Waterlogged Edition splashes onto Xbox

When the boat-on-boat violence of Smash Boats hit Nintendo Switch, it made a bit of a splash. Now though the ripple effect makes waves on Xbox, with a prettier, smoother version in Smash Boats: Waterlogged Edition.

Available right now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S is the Waterlogged Edition of the smash hit Smash Boats. It comes from Smash House Games and finally hits Microsoft’s finest boxes in new and improved form, delivering an all-action fight to the depths.

Price-wise it sits at £7.99 from the Xbox Store, and that feels like a decent enough level to drag multiple players in to what it delivers, as they go about smashing the hell out of anything and everything they see.

There’s obviously a water theme here, and that means Smash Boats: Waterlogged Edition will be found featuring a host of unusual obstacles, events and enemies. But the best thing is that it’s chock full of colour, of boats, of special moves and more. It’s just a shame that whilst the Switch version caters for multiple players via a new co-op update, the arrival on Xbox is a strictly solo affair. There are hints from the dev team that multiplayer support may well be on the cards further down the line.

In all, the key features include:

  • A boatload of pools to smash in – including a toy chest, a pool table … and even a toilet!
  • 18 boats with unique smash-abilities such as: frying pan, shark bite, lasers, water-pound – and many, many more.
  • All boats can also submerge, ram, backward ram, power turn, and brake.
  • Conquer stages and collect stars to unlock new boats and pools!
  • Couch co-op (2-player co-op) and Party mode (3 competitive party games for 1-4 players) are exclusive to the Nintendo Switch – for now, at least.

Ready to smash ’em up? Smash Boats: Waterlogged Edition can be obtained from the Xbox Store right now. It’s playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. It’s obviously available on the Nintendo eShop too.

Keep an eye out for some review thoughts from us soon.

Game Description:

Smash Boats is an action title inspired by the golden age of arcade gaming, when players embarked on a common quest to conquer all the levels and add to their growing troves of unlockables. Smashing your way to the top may sound easy, but a sea of enemies, zany Mayday events, and environmental obstacles galore block your path. Smash Boats comes fully stocked with unique pools for you to make some boat-based mayhem, including a waterlogged toy chest, a literal pool table, and even a (spotless) toilet! The playable roster features 16 unique boats you’ll earn by sinking enemies and collecting stars as you clear stages. Each boat comes with a unique Smash-ability to give you that winning edge on the water: a frying pan, shark bite, lasers, water-pound, and so much more! Combined with other moves like submerge, ram, power-turn, and brake, players have a versatile arsenal of smashing maneuvers to dominate the small seas. So water you wading for? It’s time to smash some boats!
