The last time I sat down with a video game based around cooking it was on my kid’s Nintendo DS as I attempted to convey my kitchen skills to the handheld scene with Cooking Mama. Needless to say, things didn’t go down too well.
So when I heard Ghost Town Games and Team17 were joining forces to bring a kitchen based cooperative affair to Xbox One, I can’t say I leapt out of my seat. I mean, cooking? On Xbox One? What’s that all about? Surely it’s going to be something for the kids to mess around with whilst I continue playing proper games?
Overcooked! All You Can Eat on Xbox is one offering that will satisfy your appetite, thanks to the wealth of content on offer. It’s a hugely entertaining bundle of games that, despite the occasional niggles, will see you coming back for seconds, and thirds, and fourths…
It’s time for us to progress from the base kitchens that have wowed the crowds in Overcooked 2, and move to the beach, cooking up even more of a storm with the Surf ‘n’ Turf DLC.
When Ghost Town Games and Team17 combined in 2016 to bring us the original Overcooked, we were left wondering what on earth they were up to. At the time there were concerns that this was just a ‘Cooking Mama for proper consoles’, but it instead turned up to wow the crowds, especially those who liked to delve into the dark arts of local cooperative play. In fact, it is no exaggeration to say that it went down an absolute storm.
Now though the same teams are back, this time with Overcooked 2, promising the same brilliant gameplay, just with a whole host of newly added features including online play. So do Team17 and Ghost Town Games deserve the coveted Michelin 3 Star award for services to food in gaming?
Overcooked is back with The Lost Morsel DLC add-on. Arriving as part of the physical Gourmet Edition of Overcooked, or as a standalone digital add-on from 15th Nov 2016, The Lost Morsel is priced well enough to ensure we’ll want to be grabbing for the aprons again.
But is it an essential purchase?
