Colourful roguelite shooter Die After Sunset releases on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch

die after sunset

Whether it’s the bright, flashing colours, promise of constant loot rewards, or the unforgiving loop of death and retrying, there’s just something about roguelikes and roguelites that hits the dopamine centres in our brain the hardest. Die After Sunset on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch is PlayStark Games’ and PQube’s attempt at the genre, and certainly seems to be on the more wacky side of the scale.

Loot, Shoot, Loot, Shoot!

Available now on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch, following an early-2022 launch on PC, Die After Sunset has a very simple, but very key motto. Loot, loot, loot before you shoot, shoot, shoot! It’s an ethos roguelike fans across the globe can resonate with, whether they are rolling and dodging bullets in Enter the Gungeon, or eeking out their best build within Hades.

Die After Sunset, in our opinion, looks most like Returnal, playing out as a third-person, over-the-shoulder shooter. However, this title is much more silly, with a variety of freakishly funny enemies and bosses to dispose of.

Choice in Abundance

Before embarking on each run within Die After Sunset, you have a key decision to make. Playing as one of the three unique ‘Defenders’ will shape your forthcoming build most drastically, so endeavour to check out each one. Rido is the most up-close and personal Defender, with machine gun to hand. April, on the other hand, specialises in accurate sharp-shooting. Further still, the mysteries of the finger-lazor shooting Hune is something that you’ll have to solve for yourself…

And then the fun truly begins. Throughout your run, you’ll pick up a number of abilities and upgrades scattered within this colourful alien-infested interpretation of Earth, each providing the leg-up in combat. You’ll also have to complete some of the 19 in-game missions that can appear within the run, as well as take down a number of difficult bosses.

Death is not the end, of course, and failure will only mean a boost in knowledge, as well as the opportunity to progress level trees with ‘Mucus’, obtained by killing enemies out in the world.

Get Shootin’!

Die After Sunset is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Switch and PC. To grab a copy on Xbox Series X|S, you can do so via the Xbox Store for £16.99. You won’t be able to play Die After Sunset on Xbox One though – this is a new-gen only game.

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
