In the three years or so since Enter the Gungeon successfully rolled out on Xbox One, many fans have continued to embrace the life of the Gungeoneer, enjoying the brilliance of the bullet-hell rogue-like in their masses. Today though things take a twist as spinning off from the original comes that of Exit the Gungeon – and it’s available right now on Xbox and Playstation.

Available to purchase and download right now as a native Xbox One and PS4 title, one that just so happens to also work on Xbox Series X|S and PS5, Exit the Gungeon is yet another bullet-hell experience, but this time round it’s a bit of climbing that takes centre stage.

Following on from that of Enter the Gungeon, Exit sees you going equipped with multiple weapons, with these rotating along, as you utilise their power to ensure you can continue your quest for sweet loot. With multiple heroes in place, it’ll be up to you to help them climb out of trouble, ascending the landscape and working through ever-increasingly perilous elavators. With constantly changing stages, rooms, bosses, foes, weapons and items, Exit the Gungeon is going to be one hell of an ever-changing affair.

With release on Xbox One and Series X|S we see a number of key new features hitting home, all thanks to the Hello to Arms update, with an Arsenal Mode and Shop Hub mixing things up even more. Details of these as follows:

  • Arsenal Mode: a new toggleable game mode in which weapons will be available as loot as well as for purchase in shops. Any number of these weapons can be held in addition to the Blessed gun, and can be used at any time. These additional carried guns have limited ammunition, which can be replenished by finding ammo pickups (exclusively in Arsenal Mode). This mode was designed to be more reminiscent of Enter the Gungeon’s gun management.
  • Shop Hubs: Bello’s shop has been expanded and now can be accessed twice per floor, allowing players more choice over when and how to spend their currency. This shop replaces the normal mid-floor room, in addition to its normal appearance after the boss. The shop has several doors to optional combat and NPC rooms that can be explored for loot or skipped. This should result in an overall increase in itemization for players who explore all rooms, as well as providing a source for weapon drops when playing in Arsenal Mode.

Exit the Gungeon is now available from the Xbox Store for £8.39. You should also be finding it on PS4, Nintendo Switch, Apple Arcade and Steam. Keep an eye out for our review soon.

Game Description:

Exit the Gungeon is a small, arcade-style, spin-off ‘dungeon climber’ that immediately follows the adventures of the misfit Gungeoneers attempting to survive a series of increasingly dangerous elevators and countless waves of enemies. The Gungeon has become a paradox and is collapsing! Blessed by the magic of the Sorceress, your gun will change rapidly as you ascend the Gungeon. The better you play, and the higher your combo, the more powerful the form your gun will take. Battle against the last and most bitter of the Gundead at a frantic pace, slowing down just long enough to chat with some familiar faces… and a few new ones. Shifting rooms, enemies, bosses, bizarre weapons and items all combine to ensure that no two attempts to Exit the Gungeon are the same.
