The original quickly became a multi-million selling, award-winning sandbox prison escape sim, but now The Escapists 2 is on the horizon and the latest trailer to drop from Team17 shows off something that will be very familiar to fans of the first game.
‘Welcome to Center Perks’ is the latest trailer to come out of GDC, showcasing the brand new version of a prison, highlighting some of the game’s multitude of enhancements, including the brand new visual style, all-new combat system, new items to craft, more character customisation and the new prison alert system. That’s a fair old bit of new stuff to check out, but thankfully one of the things The Escapists 2 won’t be doing away with is something that fans will know and love – the trademark humour – and the sequel has a load of that too.
The Escapists 2 will also include, in a first for the series, drop in/drop out play for up to four players in both local and online play. But even with more players, escaping won’t be easy. You’ll still need to work around the strict prison schedule, avoiding the unwanted attention of guards, whilst crafting weapons and tools found (or stolen) from within the prison. There will be the usual cell shakedowns, the opportunities to get a job or perform “favours” for your fellow inmates in order to purchase vital supplies.
…just make sure you keep an eye out for those escape routes.
The Escapists 2 will be coming to Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PC later in 2017, but for now, check out the trailer below. Oh, and don’t forget, the original game is launcing on iPhone, iPad and Android devices from the 2nd March too!
