Battle Royale has a new offering – The Darwin Project is out as an Xbox and PC Game Preview title!

-

Move over PUBG. Get out of the way Fortnite. There’s a new Battle Royale kid on the block – and it’s The Darwin Project!

If you cast your mind back to E3 2017 (I know, just try), then you may remember an Xbox One and Windows 10 exclusive being shown off for the first time, along with a pretty shouty commentator. If you could get through the shouting, then what you will remember is a cartoonish Battle Royale game that puts an emphasis on surviving extreme conditions, tracking down other players and crafting traps to ensnare your unlucky victim…

In a grim post-apocalyptic interpretation of the North Canadian Rockies, a new ice-age is imminent and thus we must test subjects to see how they survive. The result is The Darwin Project – a half science experiment, half life game show that satisfies the warped minds of the human race by watching people mercilessly kill others in a bid to survive.

But what makes this unique from all the other Battle Royale titles, all vying for your attention amidst the latest gaming trend? Well, if you decide to become a watcher of The Darwin Project, as opposed to playing, then you will have the opportunity to shake up the game by gifting special powers to players down on the battlefield in the director mode, such as helping out a player on the backfoot of a gunfight. This majorly shapes how people will be enjoying The Darwin Project for months to come – but remember as of today it is only out as part of the Xbox Game Preview Program and Steam Early Access

But if this does take your fancy, and remember The Darwin Project has been announced as an Xbox One and Windows 10 exclusive, and you wish to help the developers out by shaping a Game Preview title, then by all means check out this new, unique battle royale title. The Microsoft Store will sort you out with a download for £24.99.

Who knows? Maybe in a few centuries we will be seeing members of the human race kill each other for ultimate survival – and we’ll be watching on with sadistic glee!

Game Description:

This game is a work in progress. It may or may not change over time or release as a final product. Purchase only if you are comfortable with the current state of the unfinished game. Featuring arcade style third-person combat, the fighting system is at once primal, with the main weapons being an axe and bow, and futuristic with powers such as teleportation and energy shields. The twist is the addition of a Show Director, a player character that runs the show, spicing things up or balancing as need be. BATTLE ROYALE & SURVIVAL Darwin Project is an intense 10 player battle royale which takes place in the snowy Canadian Rocky mountains. Players must first conquer the cold, crafting fires and warm clothing; then find clues, lay traps, and hunt down the other contestants. To be the last inmate standing, players use combat, crafting, tracking, and their personality. ESHOW : THE SHOW DIRECTOR TAKES CONTROL OF THE GAME In each match, one player takes on the role of the Show Director who oversees the arena from above in a camera drone. The Director dashboard includes a suite of tools which allow them to give the underdog an unexpected edge or turn the tables on a particularly bloodthirsty contestant by summoning a gravity storm, restricting zones, or unleashing a Manhunt that reveals a player’s position in the arena. Full details on the latest status of the game, how you can give feedback and report issues can be found at www.scavengers.ca

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
