Back in 2019 we were at the height of the Lovecraftian love-in. We’d already seen Lovecraft’s Untold Stories release on Xbox, and Call of Cthulhu has only been available for a couple of months. But it was also then when Frogwares and Bigben released The Sinking City to Xbox One, PS4 and PC. And then things went sour, with publishing deals cancelled, pirated copies being thrown out, and digital rights seeing the game removed from stores. But it seems like there is no actual sinking of The Sinking City as today Frogwares have patched up the holes to release a fully optimised next-gen Xbox Series X|S version of the game.
Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox Series X|S, the next-gen edition of The Sinking City comes with everything you would expect to hear, with multiple enhancements put into place, including rapid load times, and upgraded lighting and textures to ensure that this should well be the ultimate Lovecraftian experience.
The Xbox Series X|S version of The Sinking City is only available digitally, with Frogwares handling all publishing rights themselves. This should be an edition which is able to make the most of the power and functionality of Xbox Series X|S, and when you consider that the Merciful Madness DLC has been included – either in the Deluxe Edition or as a standalone purchase – there’s a host of content included.
That content has never looked so good either. 4K (3840×2160) resolution is in place, 60 frames per second ensure things are smooth, and there are improved graphical fidelity and loading times in hand. Oh, and the asking price for entry has been dropped from the previous price too. £41.74 is all that is being asked.
Further to that is the Deluxe Edition for £54.24. This brings in the base game plus The Worshioppers of the Necronomicon (£10.74), Merciful Madness (£10.74), the Investigator Pack (£4.19), Chicago Organ Grinder and an Experience Boost. If you want to go all in with The Sinking City, this is possibly your best bet.
“As the sole owner and publisher of The Sinking City on Xbox Series X and S, we’re keeping with our idea to price our games in a region that feels fair to players.” – Serge Chervonnyi, Head of Production

If you played The Sinking City back in 2019 and are interested to know what has changed here, then you can grab the Xbox Series X|S version right now from the Xbox Store. Unfortunately as The Sinking City on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S have two different publishers, there is no smart delivery or platform upgrade possible. If you have previously purchased the game on Xbox One, but want the full Series X|S experience, you’ll need to open the wallet once more.
