Overrogue is a new card deck-building roguelite from KEMCO

KEMCO are well known in these parts for creating some lovely old-school fantasy adventures. In fact, over the years they’ve thrown out a host of those exact games to Xbox, PlayStation, PC and Switch. Today though they are going for something a little different – Overrogue is a card deck-builder which mixes in some roguelite action.

Don’t get worries, from what we’ve seen and played this is a typical KEMCO experience; it’s just they are trying to infuse something slightly different into the experience as a whole.

Having features on the Summer Game Fest Demo scene, it’s now time for the full game to rock up onto Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC. Priced at £12.49, Overrogue is a game in which you are thrust into the underworld; a realm in which many creatures roam. It’s also a place that is looking for its next Overlord. Step forward.

In Overrogue you’ll be tasked with making your way through a number of labyrinths, all dungeon-styled and ready for reaping. It’s here where you’ll get to utilise a number of card decks, working some roguelite elements in hope of building up the deck you need for success. There are more than 300 cards in place and upwards of 150 drops of treasure to enjoy, and so the combinations that are allowed in Overrogue are seemingly plentiful.

The only real question that awaits is whether or not you have what it takes to conquer the labyrinths and become the Overlord you’ve always thought of yourself as.

Give our full review of Overrogue on Xbox Series X|S a read right now. If you wish to grab a download of the game for yourself, you’ll find the Xbox Store is capable of delivering the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S (optimised) or PC version. It’s also on PlayStation and Switch.

There are also a couple of little DLC packs too – the Award Card Choices +1 and Award Swap per Square, both for £2.49.

Game Description:

In the underworld, where creatures of all shapes and sizes live, a Selection Battle is announced to decide the next Overlord. Complete labyrinths and collect crystals to achieve the title of Overlord! Proceed through dungeon-like labyrinths building up your card deck in a roguelite style! There are up to 5 different labyrinth themes based on card genres like poison or graveyards. Enjoy a different deck experience each time you visit the labyrinth as the number of cards increases. Over 300 types of cards and 150 types of treasure await you, so combos and combinations are up to you. Let’s conquer the labyrinths and become the next Overlord!

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
