I was fortunate enough to get the lowdown on some of their upcoming 2023 releases by attending the Outright Games Digital Game Showcase. So, let’s take a peek at five offerings, coming out this year, that could be perfect for entertaining the whole family.
Maybe it’s just because I have watched too many horror films involving killer sofas and psychic rubber tyres, but my first though when I saw Monster Trampoline was something very different. I for one would love a horror movie where a sentient trampoline gobbles up anyone dumb enough to jump on it. This, however, is something much more child friendly. Monster Trampoline is out today on Xbox.

Sometimes, less is more. When it comes to hidden object games, it’s hard to find one that focuses solely on the hide-and-seeking, rather than overblown tales of necromancers stealing your second-cousin for a blood ritual. Rarer still is a hidden object game that can be played with all of the family, stripped back to pretty pictures and things to find within them. Onto the stage comes Under Leaves, which launches today on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S to join previous releases on Nintendo Switch and PC.
Picture the scene: Christmas dinner eaten, presents opened, now what? Just Dance seems like a bad idea on a full stomach, and everyone remembers what dad did last year playing Monopoly. Not to sound contradictory, but the majority of kart racers are kid-friendly. The odd couple though – such as South Park Rally and the unlockable one for Mortal Kombat: Armageddon – definitely are not suitable. And one with a huge dinosaur skulking around the track attempting to eat you may not sound like one either, but for those that do not know, it is based on a kids cartoon. So, we’re all safe here. Gigantosaurus: Dino Kart is out today on Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
It would be typical of 2020 if Nine Witches: Family Disruption came true. A second dark moon has appeared in the night sky, eclipsing the more traditional moon, causing zombies and mindflaying worms to shamble across the Earth. It feels like the natural culmination to a wonky year.
Nine Witches: Family Disruption on Xbox doesn’t reinvent the graphic-adventure wheel, and you won’t find it on any end-of-year lists. What it does do, though, is tell a spooky, kooky story, tickle your ribs as it does it, and wrap it all in a frustration-free experience. Having saved the world with them, we’d happily follow Alexei and Akiro to other supernatural jaunts.
