The latest addition to Game Pass is a masterpiece

There are many games that are modern and there are many that are must-play masterpieces. But are many of those on Game Pass? With the latest addition to the service comes a game that every single person the world over should play. That game? Celeste on Game Pass.

If you’ve picked up a controller over the last few years, there’s a chance you’ll have taken in Celeste. Created by Maddy Makes Games (formerly Matt Makes Games), Celeste is one of those gaming masterpieces that you need to take in.

Celeste is on Game Pass

Celeste has been available on Xbox for a good while now. But since first launching back in 2018, it now comes to Game Pass, opening things up for an even wider range of player.

Celeste is a narrative driven affair. Running as a single player adventure it is up to you to climb to the top of Celeste Mountain. You’ll be doing so as Madeline, utilising some of the tightest, most well-rounded of platformers as you go.

Playing through some 700+ screens of action, there’s no shortage of content found in Celeste. And there is no shortage of secrets either, as you attempt to prove yourself as the most brave of mountaineers. With simple controls, plenty of depth and respawns that will keep you in the game without hassle, there’s no doubting that Celeste is a gorgeous platformer that oozes appeal.

On the back of seeing Venba arrive on Game Pass most recently, with a host of games upping and outing of the service, it feels like the perfect time for Celeste to drop in for action.

A must-player

Don’t believe us? Take in our full written review of Celeste on Xbox, or even check out the MetaScore on Metacritic

“Celeste is undoubtedly a modern masterpiece. Its mix of reactionary platforming and problem solving is a breath of fresh air. Its Assist Mode is ahead of the curb in an industry constantly discussing accessibility. The way it masterfully weaves its emotional story about mental health with its brutal difficulty is astounding. Hours of extra content, one of the best soundtracks of all time and neat art is only the icing on the cake for this indie gem.”

Get yourself over to the Xbox Store and grab a download right now. And if you like what you find – and you will! – perhaps consider a purchase too. A £15.99 price tag feels like a bargain. You’ll find it is available on PC, through Xbox Play Anywhere too.

Once you’re done with Celeste, you may well be interested in further Game Pass additions. We’re still waiting on official clarification from Microsoft, but we already know that the much anticipated EVERSPACE 2 will also be thrust into the service.

But today is all about Celeste – will you be playing it on Game Pass? The answer you are looking for is, YES!

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
