Murder is Game Over
Murder is Game Over is a new point and click whodunit

There are a ton of murder mystery games out there, mostly focusing around the Agatha Christie scene. But now there’s another, a little point-and-clicker that goes by the name of Murder is Game Over. It’s on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch right now.

From the Ratalaika Games and HitherYon Games teams is Murder is Game Over on Xbox. It’s also on PlayStation and Switch and feels perfect for the sleuths in the world. Running as a point-and-click mystery, this whodunit affair will thrust you deep into a storyline, as you attempt to make sense of the things playing out.

A new mysterious tale

Front and centre is the tale of a killer. But in a change to the norm, this killer has set their sights on a world renowed video game designer. We don’t know who this has been inspired by, but we don’t half want to know!

Anyways, this designer ends up dead and this is where you come in. In Murder is Game Over you’ll be tasked with working out who killed the victim, and how, interrogating suspects, hunting for clues and hoping you eventually find enough evidence to nail someone.

A linear tale, it’s up to you how you approach things and circumstances. And whilst you can spend time chatting to anyone in Murder is Game Over, in any order, for the tale to progess you’ll need to pull off specific actions. Puzzles may get in the way of that though.

Features of Murder is Game Over on Xbox include

With some two or three hours of gameplay within, Murder is Game Over feels like one that will suit many types of gamers. When you consider the chatter coming from the developers themselves, along with the key features, and it all gets even more intriguing.

  • 2D Top down view
  • 8 suspects
  • Mini Games
  • Crime Solving
  • Atmospheric look, sound and music
  • Intuitive  interface
  • A dog
  • Impressive settings and lighting
  • Map
  • Save feature

The US developer, HitherYon Games, was asked to paraphrase the experience presented – – “For us the most innovative feature is the emphasis on exploration. Most murder mystery games only have a small map with a few cluttered rooms and the player’s job is to pixel-hunt for hidden objects. The exploration in the game is much more like an RPG where you visit different locations that are realistically scaled. The layout of the game world may even be important in the solution to the case!”

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
