A Spacewing War erupts on Xbox, Switch, PlayStation and PC

spacewing war

Inspired by the classics that burst onto the scene back in the handheld glory days, Spacewing War sees chaos begin to erupt on PC and console.

Available to purchase and download today, whether you be a galactic roaming champion on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch or PC, Spacewing War is the latest to emerge from the Eastasiasoft squad, after being created by those at Pheuma Games.

It’s a side-scrolling shoot ’em up, much like you would have played back in the day on your handheld devices; something that has utterly inspired this experience. Running just a 4-tone pixel style but full of action, you’ll be tasked with heading out into the universe in order to try and save Earth from the evil invaders from Planet Mavros.

Sci-fi storytelling is promised, but honestly, we’re here for the shooting action and this one looks set to deliver in the shmup stakes. With multiple shot and weapon types ready to roll, seven levels of action to work though and the unlocking of further campaigns as you go, should you be up for a new, old, side-scroller and fancy laying waste to the alien hordes, Spacewing War could well be it.

The key game features include:

  • Blast through 7 levels of puzzles and retro shoot’em up action!
  • Customize your experience with 40 color palettes.
  • Find power-ups and juggle a wide variety of shot types!
  • Unlock new campaigns as you progress.
  • Enjoy a charming and light-hearted sci-fi narrative.
  • Discover secrets hidden throughout the varied stages!

You’d do well to check out our full review of Spacewing War on Xbox Series X|S, as we detail the good, and the bad, with how this plays.

If you still want to get in on what it brings, pop over to the digital store of your choice and grab a download. It’s pretty cheap at the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, running a similar level on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and on Steam for PC. It’s optimised for the current/next-gen consoles of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Game Description:

Blast off for a retro shoot’em up experience filled with clever twists and secrets! Invaders from the Planet Mavros have descended on Earth to claim it as their new home, and it’s up to you to stop them! Spacewing War is a side-scrolling shoot’em up inspired by handheld genre classics. Presented in 4-tone pixel art style, this action-packed space adventure blends light-hearted sci-fi storytelling and deceptively simple mechanics with the depth of weapon-juggling and tons of secrets to discover. Spacewing War features a wide variety of unique shot types, from simple blasters to boomerang projectiles, giving you the tools needed to tackle puzzling stage obstacles and massive bosses. Further customize your experience with 40 color palettes, unlock campaigns as you progress and discover unexpected twists as the interstellar tale unfolds! Traverse star fields, cloudy skies, choppy tropical coastlines and more in the ultimate love letter to old-school handheld action games.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
