Finland-based Remedy is known for developing genre-defining games with complex narrative paths. Max Payne, Alan Wake, Quantum Break; these are games that combine highly polished gameplay with Hollywood-worthy scripts. Likewise, Remedy’s most recent creative enterprise, Control, released in 2019 to critical acclaim. It was nominated for the Game of the Year by several noteworthy outlets and picked up multiple awards. Our review praised the game’s story, audio design and exploration, among other things. After a two-month delay, Control receives the first of its two expansions – The Foundation – on Xbox One, which you can download for £12.49.

Control’s second expansion, titled AWE, is expected to arrive later in 2020 across all platforms. Meanwhile, actress Courtney Hope reprises her role as agent Jesse Faden in The Foundation. Taking control (pun definitely intended) of the newly-appointed Director Jesse, you’re presented with the daunting task to prevent The Astral Plane from colliding with our reality and the Oldest House. Sounds like another day at the office. To make more sense of this ordeal, Jesse must find Helen Marshall, who may have the answers she needs.

The Foundation continues the action-packed sci-fi gameplay established by Control. As Jesse, you’ll wield familiar abilities and weapons from the base game, as well as new telekinetic and environment-bending abilities, destructive firearms and mods. Adding hours of content, The Foundation introduces a galore of new environments to explore, collectables to find and sidequests to complete.

Encounter new characters and fight enemies with everything wrapped in Remedy’s signature storytelling style. With this release, The Foundation is now officially available on both, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, as well as PC. Lay your eyes on the new expansion in the trailer below. And to find out just how good The Foundation is, stay tuned for our upcoming review. Likewise, if you’re yet to delve into the supernatural world of Control, check out our in-depth review of the full game.

And if you would prefer to be completely sorted for everything Control has to offer going forward, then you’ll find the Season Pass available for £19.99 – it’ll bundle together both The Foundation with AWE.

DLC Description:

The Foundation Expansion includes new story content and side missions as well as new weapons and mods inspired by the Oldest House’s mysterious origins. The Astral Plane is colliding with our reality. Jesse Faden, the Director of the Federal Bureau of Control, must travel through the caverns of the Foundation to prevent the Astral Plane from consuming the Oldest House. The missing Head of Operations, Helen Marshall, may hold some answers to the mysteries surrounding this threat…
