1999’s Blair Witch Project was an incredibly influential horror movie. It popularised the found-footage genre and is widely regarded as having the first ever viral marketing campaign. But underneath its impact, Blair Witch Project remains just as horrifying and unsettling now, as it was in 1999. That’s why I’m overjoyed that Bloober Team is bringing back the bone-chilling series in video game form, today as Blair Witch launches on Xbox One, PC and Xbox Game Pass.
You can pick it up from the Xbox store or Steam for £24.99, right now in fact, but if you’re a fragile soul, unsure of whether or not you can handle being stranded in the woods, worry not. You can try Blair Witch on Xbox Game Pass first, before buying the game.
The developers behind Layers of Fear announced their first-person horror title at this years E3 with a cryptic teaser. Since then, the small snippets of gameplay have remained vague, quick and terrifying… just as the Blair Witch should be.
As a former police officer, it’s up to you to journey into the Blair Witch’s woods and investigate a young boy’s disappearance. Bloober Team promises to go into the police officer’s troubled history while the Blair Witch plays with his vulnerable mind. If this sounds all too stressful, there is an adorable dog that’ll help comfort you along your way… but we can’t promise he’ll survive the walk.
