It’s been pretty much 18 months since we first heard of the Nordic horrors promised in Bramble: The Mountain King. Finally it’s time to take them in.

Bramble: The Mountain King arrives on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC via the Dimfrost Studios and Merge Games teams. It’s something that we’ve been keeping an eye on since first reveal back in 2021, even settling down for a cosy little interview with Dimfrost a few months back

Now it’s here and players can get to experience the wonders of this Nordic world. Just don’t expect this to be a wholesome tale full of delights, Bramble: The Mountain King promising to be utterly gripping and totally unsettling.

It has you playing as Olle, a young boy who is looking to rescue his sister – full-on gaming tropes captured right there. What is different though is that the kidnapper is a troll, whilst many spiteful beasts await as you attempt this journey of safety. Thankfully you have a few tools at your disposal, with the Spark of Courage your main key, helping you endure the trials and tribulations of the adventure.

But throughout Bramble, you’ll need to be aware of many things – one of which is the fact that courage, without accompanied kindness, can be a cruel beast.

“We’re thrilled to finally bring the stunning but treacherous world of Bramble: The Mountain King to players worldwide,” remarked Luke Keighran, Managing Director of Merge Games. “Partnering with Dimfrost Studios, a key internal development studio within Maximum Entertainment Group, it has been an absolute pleasure and to watch this creation grow into something truly special. Bramble is a journey that will test players courage, wit and sanity. We can’t wait to see their reactions”

“The amount of passion, dedication, and creativity that has gone into ‘Bramble: The Mountain King’ is truly remarkable,” commented Josua Mannebäck, Studio Director at Dimfrost. “As a team, we’re proud and excited to show what we have done and introduce the world to Nordic folklore. We have found our identity with Bramble and laid the cornerstone of the studio to move on to bigger and more ambitious projects.”

The key features include:

  • Traverse the sinister world of Bramble on an emotional journey to find your sister
  • Unravel dark secrets and discover what lurks in the depths of your mind as you fight for courage
  • Beautiful art encapsulating story-driven gameplay with immersive cinematic moments
  • Encounter mythical creatures such as Näcken, the Skogsra, trolls, gnomes and more
  • Explore a sprawling landscape of tremendous heights and plunging depths inspired by Nordic nature

We’re right in the middle of our review of Bramble: The Mountain King and will deliver it towards your eyes soon. For now, if you wish to get involved for yourself, you’ll discover the game sitting pretty on all the usual digital stores (Switch from 28th Apr). If we do our job right, we point you to the Xbox Store for an Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S download. Expect to pay around £24.99.
