Everything is Awesome with LEGO 2K Drive on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC

Ever since the release of Forza Horizon 4’s LEGO Speed Champions back in 2019, we have wished for nothing more than even more bricky and blocky racing to come our way. Well, our wishes have been truly answered – LEGO 2K Drive is here!

Releasing today on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC platforms, LEGO 2K Drive may well become one of the sleeper hits of 2023; a year already plastered with many decent releases.

Set within the dense, open world of Bricklandia, LEGO 2K Drive is 2K and Visual Concepts’ answer to the ‘go anywhere’ moniker that Forza Horizon coined all those years ago. As well as the ability to race anywhere across this LEGO land (but not that LEGOLAND), one of the biggest draws of LEGO 2K Drive is the option of crafting your own vehicles from LEGO bricks. In as intuitive a system as actually building your automobiles in real life, from the colourful bits of plastic, you’ll soon have the most powerful and unique rides your mind can create, to take down the mysterious Shadow Z organisation.

In addition to burning rubber (burning plastic?) across Prospecto Valley, Big Butte desert and more picturesque areas in Story Mode, 2K Drive also offers up the opportunity to race in single races, Tourneys, and to also participate in wacky minigames – the true test of any great racer!

You don’t have to do all of this solo, mind you. LEGO 2K Drive caters for two players in local multiplayer, and up to a party of six playing online, with full cross-platform play enabled. We can see it now: hunkering down for hours on end, building your LEGO masterpiece in secret, before tearing past your mates for all to see. With different vehicles varying in Weight, Health, Top Speed and more, the room for optimisation is vast.

Key game features…

  • THE ULTIMATE LEGO DRIVING EXPERIENCE – Get behind the wheel and gear up for tons of open-world exploration and thrilling races! Take on the exciting Story mode, jump into a single race or Cup Series tourneys, and let loose in off-the-wall minigames. Master the art of drifting, boosting, jumping, and using power-ups to defeat opponents!
  • RACE FOR THE SKY TROPHY – Story mode follows your journey from rookie racer to famous champion as you compete against a series of charismatic rivals. With each victory, you’ll work your way up the ranks to take on the infamous Shadow Z. OPEN-WORLD EXPLORATION The vast and vibrant world of Bricklandia is yours to explore as you see fit, full of colorful characters and kooky quests. Zoom past lush fields on Turbo Acres’ pavement, go off-roading in the deserts of Big Butte County, cruise across Prospecto Valley’s picturesque waterways, and more.
  • UNLEASH YOUR CREATIVITY – Building vehicles in the Garage is as easy as snapping bricks together. Construct new cars and boats from scratch, modify any vehicle in your collection, or unwind with guided builds, then take your creation for a drive!
  • PLAY TOGETHER AT HOME AND ONLINE – Roam around Bricklandia in local splitscreen or join your driving buddies online!

LEGO 2K Drive is now available for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Switch and PC, provided you pay up for the more expensive options. On the Xbox Store, you can pick up a copy of the Standard Edition for £49.99 for either Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S. You will have to pay £59.99 for the Cross-Gen Edition of the game, which enables play on both Xbox consoles. Those become available from the ‘official’ street date of the 19th May.

For access right now and playing earlier than street release, we then have the Awesome Edition for £89.99 (for both consoles), which comes with the Year 1 Drive Pass and a few bonus cosmetics. Finally (we are nearly there, I promise), for those true LEGO enthusiasts, the Awesome Rivals Edition (also for both consoles) will set you back £104.99, and comes with the Year 1 Drive Pass, extra cosmetics, and then even more exclusive additions. The Xbox Store pages for all will contain further details of what each edition provides. Phew!

Want a review? We’ve been messing around in Bricklandia and will be delivering some thoughts real soon. We think LEGO 2K Drive could be the highlight of the new Xbox releases this week.

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
