Five of the Best Single Player Games on the Xbox Game Pass

-

Gaming can be such a great bonding experience when you’re playing with friends. But sometimes just chilling and getting invested in a game’s story, environment and the gameplay is where it’s at. If you own the Xbox Game Pass, you need to take advantage of the numerous games that the service hosts from triple-A blockbusters to indie games. And following on from 10 of the most wonderful games available on the service, we’re here to share five of the best single player games on the Xbox Game Pass.

Untitled Goose Game

Untitled-Goose-Game

Untitled Goose Game broke out big in 2019 with not only having an unconventional name but with an unconventional premise.

You play as a goose who wreaks havoc around the village. The goose can even be a little cruel with one of your tasks involving stealing the glasses of a blind boy, but it’s so out there that you can’t stop laughing about it.

The game features a fun mix of puzzles and stealth gameplay that feels simple, but the situations you get yourself into are hilarious. The humor is very slapstick heavy, and it’s reminiscent of the old silent-era film comedies like what we have seen from Charlie Chaplin. Even the music, which is mostly piano, feels like that old jaunty tune that paired so well with the silent slapstick style.

This is a game that’s so out there that you’ll be invested in some excellent goose adventures.

Batman: Return to Arkham

batman return to arkham

Batman: Return to Arkham is the perfect one-two punch with the famous Arkham series.

The first game, Arkham Asylum, has you becoming Batman as he tries to navigate the overtaken Arkham Asylum caused by the Joker. Not only do the fighting mechanics effortlessly flow together, but the detective side of Batman is explored. You’ll encounter numerous puzzles as detective mode is used to defeat your enemies stealthily.

This game alone would guarantee a spot on this list, but it leads to one of the best game sequels of all time. Arkham City takes everything that made the first game great and adds new elements that help this sequel feel bigger. You now are trapped in Arkham City, a decaying section of Gotham that has been set up for criminals to roam. It transforms the Arkham series into a beautiful gothic open-world game that allows you to fully be the Batman. Grappling onto gargoyles and falling until you glide from rooftop to rooftop is thrilling. Catwoman becomes a playable character, and the sections featuring her don’t feel like a distraction.

Get ready to become the Batman… and collect all of those Riddler trophies!

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Finished binging The Witcher on Netflix and haven’t played The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt? You need to start immediately.

The Witcher focuses on Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter who is the titular witcher, on a quest to find his adopted daughter before the Wild Hunt can find her and take her power.

It’s insane how much time you can dedicate to The Witcher 3 with over 100 hours of content on display. Besides the main quest, there are side quests, various monster contracts, and even the Gwent card game to play. You could be doing one task and then all of a sudden a monster will appear, which makes you want to kill that creature instead.

If you played what most people consider one of the best games of the last decade, do yourself a favor and pick up the controller.

A Plague Tale: Innocence

A Plague Tale: Innocence

Like with horror movies, the element that A Plague Tale: Innocence gets right is the characters.

The game is set during the Black Plague era, and it follows Amicia and Hugo, who are fleeing from their village as troops from the Inquisition want Hugo. The sibling bond is so strong as you feel like it’s them versus the world. It helps the stealth mechanics by adding more tension in the gameplay, as if you’re caught the damage is usually one hit.

Having it set with the plague as the primary focus provides some great scares, especially with the rats. You’ll see swarms of them, and it’s just disgusting as they’re all huddled together, waiting to feast. It’s equal parts heartwarming and heart-pounding that results in something special.

Fallout 4

Fallout 4

Who knew exploring a post-nuclear apocalypse land could be so much fun?

In the action RPG that is Fallout 4, you are the sole survivor of a cryogenic fallout shelter as your spouse is killed in front of you, and your child is taken away. There’s so much player freedom that Bethesda gives you with having deep customization options for your character, and an abundance of stats to play around with.

You can do main missions, side quests, build factions that allow for crafting and so much more while exploring the surprisingly beautiful wasteland of Boston. On top of that, the option of mods adds even more hours to pour into this game.

The Xbox Game Pass is full of many brilliant games but perhaps it is in the single player scene with which it flourishes. As is tradition though, let us know what single player games you’ve been playing from the Game Pass. We’d love to hear from you.
