Barely a week goes by without Dovetail Games building out Train Sim World 3 in one way or another, but this week has seen a double drop of railway goodness. Now available is the opportunity to head back to the 1990s as you take in the stunning Rheinland countryside with the new Train Sim World 3: Linke Rheinstrecke: Mainz – Koblenz Route Add-on.

Available right this minute for Train Sim World 3 fans to consider purchasing is the new Train Sim World 3: Linke Rheinstrecke: Mainz – Koblenz expansion; a DLC drop that whisks us off to days gone by, taking in the countryside views via the DB BR 103 that powered its way through Germany.

Priced up at £29.99 – something that may seem expensive for a DLC pack, but is pretty much in line with other Train Sim World content adds – the Train Sim World 3: Linke Rheinstrecke: Mainz – Koblenz Route is set in 1997 at a time when the Deutsche Bundesbahn was in a state of transition, slowly and surely becoming the Deutsche Bahn of today.

It’s a route that takes us on a scenic ride in the BR 103 and BR 110.3, kitted out in red Intercity and mint green n-Wagen colours. You’ll get the chance to take in historic towns peppered with ancient buildings and glorious castles set against the steep rock faces either side of the Rhine. 24 castles in total can be seen along the route, separated by plentiful tunnels and stations. The route is bookended by the stations at Mainz Hbf and Koblenz Hbf, recreated to reflect their appearance during the late 1990s.

There are also some fun collectibles to hunt down along the way, including Cuckoo Clocks.

With Train Sim World 3 recently found embracing the power of steam, there’s a chance that you’ll be well up for a trip through the German countryside, taking in everything that the Train Sim World 3: Linke Rheinstrecke: Mainz – Koblenz route has to offer.

It’s available across Xbox, PlayStation and PC right now, with the Xbox Store being the best bet if you’re in the same camp as us. You’ll need the base game to hand.

DLC Description:

Wind the clock back to the 1990s and experience the stunning Rheinland countryside with Train Sim World 3: Linke Rheinstrecke: Mainz – Koblenz! Before the days of ICE trainsets and bespoke high-speed lines, express services used fast locomotives on existing routes. Once such loco was the DB BR 103, which would haul long rakes of Intercity coaches throughout Germany. Serve each town and village with the refreshing mint tones of the n-Wagen, pushed and pulled by the classic, Orient Red-wearing BR 110.3. Master the art of tap changer controls, and passenger services long before the mass arrival of dostos and multiple units. Trundle past historical buildings and towns on the Western face of the Rhine, complete route tasks, or simply go trainspotting from your favourite vantage point. Customise your own experiences with the Scenario Planner and Livery Designer and share them on Creators Club.
