The Outbound Ghost – a game in which you’ll be found helping cute spooks ascend to the afterlife – is coming to PC and consoles later in 2022.

Far removed from the other ghostly goings-on that will be found in Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed in the months ahead, The Outbound Ghost is an an adventure RPG that will be materialising later this year on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

Coming from the indie publisher Digerati, after being created by the team at Conradical Games, The Outbound Ghost promises to be a hauntingly adorable RPG, one in which the story-driven adventure will see players whisked off to a world of quests, exploration, turn-based combat, and crafting, as they take control of an amnesiac spook with no memory of who they are or how they died.

Arriving in Outbound, a small village with its own mysterious and tragic past, the spectral protagonist finds it haunted by former residents unable to pass over to the other side. The player must help the ghostly inhabitants resolve their unfinished earthly business and find peace, allowing the restless souls to ascend to the afterlife.

It’s been put together by Conradical Games, as programmer, designer, and project lead Conrad Grindheim, joined with composer Kimmo Savilampi (Aria Disconnect) and character artist Clayton Chowaniec (Rog & Roll).

Publishing partner Digerati is also working with Conradical Games to help the developer bring its vision for the game to fruition, as Grindheim explains:

“Due to budget restraints, early iterations of The Outbound Ghost lacked combat and important gameplay features. However, with Digerati supporting development, the game is now shaping up to become more aligned with what I’ve always wanted it to be. The aim is to create a compelling story that seamlessly integrates with original gameplay. That’s something I’ve prioritized since day one. We still have work to do, but I’m already very happy with the narrative design. I don’t want to elaborate and give too much away, but there are multiple ‘paradigm shifts’ in the game that I hope will make for unforgettable story beats.”

The key features of The Outbound Ghost include:

  • Colourful characters: Meet a lovable cast of spooks along the way, each with their own story to unravel
  • Combat encounters: Unlock figments of your past personality, such as Regret, Benevolence, and Jealousy and use them as party members in turn-based battles
  • Badge system: Craft materials earned by winning combat encounters into badges, which can be equipped for various effects and stat boosts
  • A world in 2.5D: Adorable, paper-style characters inhabit a world with depth and detail to create a distinctly eye-catching visual style

We urge you to give the trailer for The Outbound Ghost a little watch. If you’re sold, you may also like to head over to the Steam page to give it a bit of a wishlist. Failing that, just stay tuned to our pages as we keep you in the loop with everything The Outbound Ghost going forward.
