Promising to provide a slice of life experience, merged with narrative adventure and third-person single player gameplay, inKONBINI: One Store. Many Stories has today been revealed. And it’s set to come to Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC in 2025.

From Nagai Industries is their debut title – inKONBINI: One Store. Many Stories. This is set to be a third-person single-player game that puts you in the shoes of a convenience store clerk in early 1990s Japan. And when it does arrive in 2025, expect to be treated to some narrative adventure, simulation and a meditative, slice-of-life experience that is centered around a small-town convenience store and the lives of its customers.

A new Japanese narrative adventure

Whether it be on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch or PC, you’ll find the tale in inKONBINI: One Store. Many Stories taking place in the summer of 1993. It’s here where Makoto Hayakawa is taking a break from her studies to spend a week behind the counter in her aunt’s konbini. Stocking up goods and ordering deliveries are going to be a part of Makoto’s daily routine. But that will have to be balanced with the heart and soul of the game – the dialogue interaction with a diverse cast of characters she will meet and befriend.

In terms of the narrative on offer, inKONBINI should be seen as a tapestry of individual stories, all put together to create a sense of a living community that will change and evolve according to choices you make as Makoto. Playing through the game, you will get to know the human side of your customers, listening in on the stories they have to tell, learning their secrets, and finding a way to help them deal with problems they face in their daily lives.

A casual, lack of challenge

inKONBINI: One Store. Many Stories has come about via a traditional Japanese concept, ichi-go ichi-e, which reflects the transient nature of life and the hidden importance of its every single moment. The plan for the Nagai Industries team is to deliver a slow-paced, relaxing game devoid of severe challenge. They are hoping it will be tailored to the taste of those who find pleasure in meaningful stories and well-developed characters.

‘Once you step into Makoto’s shoes, you’ll start to recognise how some of your smallest and seemingly unimportant decisions are able to transform your customers’ lives,’ said project director and Nagai Industries founder Dima Shen.

inKONBINI: One Store. Many Stories is set to release digitally in early 2025. You should be able to play it on Xbox Series X|S, PC, Mac, Playstation 5, and Nintendo Switch. For now, the announcement teaser trailer should be taken in. Give it a watch and get into the comments.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
