It’s a slam dunk – Metaball launches on Xbox as the latest free-to-play offering. 

We’re getting Rocket League Hoops vibes with the launch of Metaball on Xbox, but honestly, you could probably take any of the recent sports arena titles and feel the same.

Free to download and totally free to play, Metaball from Bucketplay drops you right in the middle of a small arena, as you join the Metaball league, fighting to prove yourself as the great player in the world. 

Metaball is a unique game. It rose up out of a long fought conflict, all as solar energy began to deplete. It’s here where global leaders came together to model a new sport on basketball – it’s just the players are chucked on hoverboards and that ball is tethered!

A match of Metaball is a tight affair too. Winners walk away with precious resources, with Metanium front and centre, ensuring the planet can continue to thrive. The question is, can you prove yourself as the great Metaball player in the galaxy. And allow your planet to hold all bragging rights?

Metaball – as a base game – is available for free to download on Xbox. It’s playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, running cross-platform multiplayer as it goes. It’s optimised for Series consoles too.

Of course, as with most free-to-play affairs, there are some additional paid packs. Each one of those available for Metaball adds in different things, with a purchase dependant on how deep you wish to go in this newly formed sport. 

Currently in place is an £8.39 Starter Package, and similarly priced Gold Bundle. Then there are the £16.74 priced Guitar Man Pack, Kung Fu Pack and Red Astro Pack. The biggy is that of the Metaball Diamond Bundle – for £21.74 you’re getting a host of new content.

Metaball Description

The Metaball League was born from a conflict that arose among all the civilizations of the heliocentric system as solar energy began to deplete. After much discussion, leaders of each planet finally agreed on a novel approach: a new sport modeled on Earth’s basketball.

Each match winner would earn Metanium for their planet, a newly discovered ore that could be used as a substitute for solar energy. This innovative solution not only quelled the conflict but also gave birth to a new era of strong but respectful competition among the civilizations.

Equipped with high-tech hoverboards, gloves, and a Gravity Pack, Metaball Riders must carry the ball through another faction’s hoop, the team that scored the most at the end of the match wins!
