Meg’s Monster is about Meg and her monster. What d’ya mean you need more?

Available to purchase and download right this minute on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC is Odencat’s retro turn-based JRPG, Meg’s Monster.

Odencat are a Japanese based indie developer and publisher who are found releasing their epic stylized JRPG to the West for the very first time. It’s made some waves over in their homeland, and now also here across the globe, as players on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and PC look to save the child, in order to save the world.

See, Meg’s Monster is about a little girl – if she cries, the world ends. Thankfully she’s got a couple of mates, and it’s here where her monsters will do the bidding, fighting off opponents, keeping Meg safe. Above all else, they are stopping her from crying and considering one of them – Roy – is an utter tank, that’s not totally impossible.

Priced at £12.49 and running a launch week discount, Meg’s Monster is a bit of a stunner, especially appealing to those who like a JRPG hit or two. With magical mechanics and mini-games holding this one together and tons of quirk, drama and emotion to be had, there’s a good chance that the tale of Meg’s Monster will stay with you for some time.

It has us and that’s not because we’ve hit Meg’s Monster with a big 4.5/5 in review. See, it’s the great story that we’ve really been taken in by, and the excellent visual style too. There’s also the combat twist to keep in mind, and even though we felt the tale as a whole was a little short, it’s one that comes with huge recommendation.

Give the trailer below a watch, head to your favourite digital store and ensure you spend some time with a little girl and her monster friend as soon as you can. The download of Meg’s Monster for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S that you need is on the Xbox Store

You’ll also find the game on Switch and PC.

Game Description:

Welcome to the Underworld—a land of monsters and mutants who eat humans for breakfast. One such monster—a hulking ogre by the name of Roy—has no interest in eating humans. But one day, he and his best friend Golan stumble upon a lost little girl named Meg, and discover something truly terrifying: the moment she starts wailing in fear, a blood-red hue washes over the sky, and the earth itself begins to tremble and quake. That’s right: this small girl’s tears hold the power to bring forth the apocalypse—and the only way to stop it is for them to help find her mother so she can make it safely back home. Meg’s Monster is a short, story-driven JRPG with a big twist. Players control Roy, who begins the game with 99,999 HP and is virtually untouchable—but the real concern is keeping Meg safe, because if she starts crying, it’s game over for everyone. Players will have to master the unique mechanics and mini-games baked into each battle, all while protecting Meg and using her favorite toys to keep her pacified. Over the course of their journey together, Roy and Meg will encounter a host of quirky and colorful characters, all lovingly rendered in Odencat’s trademark vibrant pixel aesthetic that makes even scary monsters look cute. There’s plenty of drama and intrigue to be found here—and even previously defeated enemies can be befriended through optional sub-events. What begins as a relatively simple and heartwarming story about two unlikely friends ultimately expands into something much greater, as Roy and Meg slowly begin to unravel the mysteries surrounding the Underworld and themselves. The result is an emotional journey that, like any good storybook, will remain in your heart for years to come.
