Outriders – Lootin’ and Shootin’ on Xbox through Game Pass, PlayStation, Stadia and PC

outriders launch

Destiny, Borderlands, The Division. What all of these games have in common is that they are excellent entries in the looter-shooter genre, and now many other developers want a slice of their pie. The latest challengers to the throne are Square Enix and People Can Fly (of Bulletstorm fame), with Outriders, out today on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Google Stadia and PC. Oh, and it’s on Game Pass!

Outriders tells a tale in the not so distant future, where humans have drained Earth’s resources and must inhabit a new planet. Enoch is the destination, and you play a member of the first group colonising the planet, preparing a new civilisation for the entry of the rest of the human race. Although, that was supposed to be the plan, yet a mysterious signal scuppers said plan – what follows is a journey through shanty towns, mountains, deserts and the like in order to trace down the source of the signal.

What that translates to gameplay-wise is a cycle of travelling to missions, engaging in some third-person combat, and looting your foes in order to constantly upgrade your gear and armour. This is a deep RPG, with 4 different classes to choose from, each providing their own abilities that will supplement others, complementing the three-person teams that you can form online. Cooperation really is the key here! Add to this branching skill trees and a range of weapons, and there is a real scope for fine-tuning your super-soldier into one that is solely unique to your playstyle.

Xbox gamers seem to get the best deal from Outriders too, with shiny Xbox Series X|S Optimised visuals that ensure the environments that Square Enix and People Can Fly have built will impress in every instance. Furthermore, Outriders has come to Xbox Game Pass from day-one, so subscribers to the platform need not pay a penny!

If this doesn’t have you sold, then it may benefit you to read through our thoughts of the demo, which released a few weeks back – expect a full review of the game in the coming days.

Outriders is now available from the Xbox Store for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One for £59.99, and you can also purchase it for PS5, PS4, Google Stadia and PC from their respective stores.

There’s also the purchase of the Hell’s Rangers Content Pack to consider too. This will set you back £5.79 but in return you’ll find access to new Male and Female Gear Sets, 11 unique Guns and a host of Truck Modes and Decals.

See you out on the battlefield, soldier!

Game Description:

OUTRIDERS is a 1-3 player co-op RPG shooter set in an original, dark and desperate sci-fi universe. As mankind bleeds out in the trenches of Enoch, you’ll create your own Outrider and embark on a journey across the hostile planet. With rich storytelling spanning a diverse world, you’ll leave behind the slums and shanty towns of the First City and traverse forests, mountains and desert in the pursuit of a mysterious signal. Combining intense gunplay with violent powers and an arsenal of increasingly twisted weaponry and gear-sets, OUTRIDERS offers countless hours of gameplay from one of the finest shooter developers in the industry – People Can Fly.

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
