The first was loved by many, but slated by many more, whilst the sequel was just loved, loved and loved a bit more. Yep, I'm talking about Watch Dogs and Watch Dogs 2 because right now you can grab a rather tasty double pack - or two.
Well howdy partners, ah ya’ll lookin’ for a stylised retro western shooter? Then does Adult Swim Games have a game for you my cowboy friends! Westerado: Double-Barreled is the latest game to offer a unique spin on the western setting, one that Adult Swim Games hopes will succeed in keeping our attention and carving out its own existence, and not just unintentionally act as some form of prelude to Red Dead Redemption 2 - albeit on a different scale.
Russian dolls, or Matryoshka dolls if I’m to address them properly, are fascinating little trinkets. As a child, there was a sense of wonderment upon seeing one for the first time as the wooden figure housed multiple others of its kind, only each figure within got smaller and smaller. They make great ornaments, but who would’ve thought the dolls could be the main attraction of a puzzling adventure? Well, apparently the creative folks at Double Fine Productions, which led to the wonderfully imaginative Stacking coming to fruition back in 2011.
Double Fine and Lucasarts fans rejoice! Remasters of three classic adventure games are launching on the Xbox One and Xbox Game Pass. Grim Fandango Remastered, Full Throttle Remastered, and Day of the Tentacle Remastered are finally going to be in the hands of Xbox players.
Another two games are spooping up the Xbox One Games with Gold scheme, well in time for Halloween. The freshly released Maid of Sker and the Double Fine classic Costume Quest are now both available for free to anyone with Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass subscriptions.
There are certain Xbox games that, criminally, received less attention than they deserved. Psychonauts is one such game. Developed by Double Fine Studios, which now sits under the Xbox Game Studios umbrella, the game was praised by critics but commercially wasn’t a success.
Double Fine have already had a big year. At E3 2019 they not only revealed gameplay for the long awaited Psychonauts 2, but they also announced they were joining Xbox Game Studios. It was a monumental moment for a studio that's been independent for 19 years. However, after all this time, RAD reminds us why the studio has been a creative juggernaut for two decades. It doesn't execute all of its ideas perfectly, but RAD is endlessly charismatic, visually fascinating and just incredibly creative... and I'd expect nothing less.
There’s a lot to be expected of a game that launches via Kickstarter and absolutely smashes its funding target. But that’s exactly what Double Fine’s Broken Age campaign did. Clearly, the sheer thought of Tim Schafer (Monkey Island, Full Throttle etc.) working on a new point-and-click adventure was enough to get gamers to part with their cash. The question is, has the money been well-spent on a genre that’s peaked in recent times, or does Broken Age fail to capture the magic of those gone before it?
2016 has been an odd year for games. Whilst it’s certainly been a busy in terms of big releases, not all have been the triple-A masterpieces we’ve seen arriving almost weekly recently on the Xbox Store. In fact, some arrivals just appear out of nowhere, before pulling you in with their quirky appearances and unusual gameplay. Headlander is one such title, and whilst developers Double Fine have always managed to intrigue me with the captivating gameplay seen in their many other titles, the intrigue this time came from the knowledge I would be in control of a flying head for my adventures.
Honestly, the new additions to Game Pass have been pretty slow in recent weeks, with just a smattering of one-off games coming to the service. That changes today as a triple treat of gaming treasures turn up on Game Pass for Xbox and PC.Â
