Getting in there before American and Asian gamers complain about the date, for this latest retrospective piece we are going on the initial European release date for Final Fantasy IX, which is the 16th February 2001. That’s right, 20 years ago; a time where European gamers had to wait an extra seven months longer for one of the best Final Fantasy games.

I never thought I would play Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. This is a game which originally released first on a PlayStation handheld console - the PlayStation Portable (PSP) in 2011 to be precise - as a Japanese exclusive. In fact, I surprised myself when I bought and played it
Let’s get something straight; Final Fantasy XIII may be one of the most divisive of all the Final Fantasy’s. But for those looking forward to reading a ‘Looking Back…’ piece that rips it apart, I’ve got some bad news for you: I’m a massive fan of Final Fantasy XIII, and for what it’s worth, the sequels as well.

I vividly remember spending hours running around, trying to get my guys strong enough to put a dent on the Hell Wyrm, and reading through my guide book (remember those?) to find out hints and tips for getting better weapons. Now, 13 years later, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age has been remastered for the Xbox One, so the question is, has time been kind to this game, or should it have stayed in my fond memories? I dived back into the world of Ivalice to find out.
Much like that Sex Pistols gig that every man and his dog has claimed to be at during some point or other, it is likely that every man and his dog claims to have played Final Fantasy VII. The reality being though that they’ve just seen that bit involving Aeris/Aerith and Sephiroth in ‘X Most Shocking Videogame Moments’ and reckon that’s the whole plot right there.
Well, I am here to tell you it isn’t and if you are basing your opinion or experience of this JRPG classic on that one moment then stop what you are doing right now and pick up this classic. The version on the Xbox One may not be the best but it is easily the most accessible, and probably the cheapest way to play too.
