Those of you who were around in the 80s will probably remember the arcade sci-fi shooter Tempest, well it’s made a return today in the form of a reboot. Are you ready for the classic arcade experience of Tempest 4000?

The original Tempest from Atari was setting trends back in the day with its 3D vector graphics, but now it’s time for Tempest 4000 to shine. Seeing as Jeff Minter is at the helm – who’s created other titles in the Tempest series – the fast pace of the tough wave-based shooter remains, as do the retro neon vibes. Players will be in control of a powerful spacecraft, the Claw, which is well-equipped to destroy the hordes of enemies and obstacles needing to be eliminated.

There are 100 levels to conquer in total and three different game modes to tackle; Classic, Pure, and Survival. The latter of those, Survival, tasks gamers with surviving for as long as possible with their eight lives in the bank. The Classic mode starts off with three lives in tow and the aim is to battle through the enemies until they run out – once it’s over, you can begin the next playthrough from the last completed stage. The other mode, Pure, sees a similar spin on the Classic formula with three lives at the beginning, just without the possibility of started from where it left off after the inevitable death.

This Atari classic is available right now on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with Xbox One gamers advised to seek out Tempest 4000 on the Microsoft Store if they wish add it to their gaming library – where it’s priced at £23.99!

Will you be grabbing the adrenaline pumping Tempest 4000, taking in its retro vibes? Or is the price point a put off for you? Let us know in all of the usual places!
