At the back end of 2019 the small development team at Altergo Games dropped the wonderfully woolly world of Woven to Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC. Today they are back with another game announcement, one that is a mile away from the cuteness of Woven. Are you ready for the psychological horror adventure of Sanity Of Morris?

Article Update: 09/02/21 – StickyLock have now confirmed that Sanity of Morris will release on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and PC come March 23rd 2021.

By teaming up with StickyLock Studios, Alterego Games have today announced that their psychological horror adventure game Sanity of Morris is set to be released in Q4 of 2020 for Xbox One, PS4, PC and MacOS.

Telling the tale of a young man who is in search of his father, Sanity of Morris will see you helping this guy stay sane, as he attempts to not be consumed by conspiracy theories about the government and alien signals. Set in the remote landscape of Greenlake, you come to visit your father, but – as with most psychological horrors – nothing is as you expected it to be. In fact, there are forces are at work that don’t want you to be there, and they are armed.

Much like good old Alan Wake, in Sanity of Morris you’ll be equipped with nothing more than a flashlight and a notebook. From there it is up to you to step into the shoes of Johnathan Morris and discern the truth from the fiction. It is the light which will help you do this, revealing the clues you need to find your father, but also alerting players to those who are trying to hunt you down. Darkness keeps you hidden, but linger for too long, and you might go insane.

“We wanted to create something new and exciting, but also keep doing what we’re good at; storytelling. So for Sanity of Morris we took from Woven the adventure genre, having collectibles and working with a strong narrative. But then we added a whole layer of psychological horror in the music, in the visuals, and it’s really unnerving! In this game, you will start to question John’s reality. It makes for an engaging experience, like an interactive movie, perfect for escaping daily life. And we can all use that right about now.” – Dominic de Graaf, Creative Director.

Features of Sanity of Morris on Xbox One, PS4 and PC include:

  • Use your flashlight to reveal and interact with clues.
  • Crouch and sneak your way past enemies undetected.
  • Collect audio tapes, secret files and hidden pictures for your journal and create a timeline of events.
  • Balance seeking out new information against avoiding stress, or you might lose your sanity.
  • Discover the truth about your father and his alien conspiracies. Has he gone crazy…. Or have you?

If you’re up for a bit of a psychological horror with a detective adventure game twist then Sanity of Morris is one to keep an eye on. We’ll be sure to keep you up-to-date as to the development process, but if you’re already sold and game on PC, then you’ll find you can wishlist Sanity of Morris right now on Steam.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
