Simon the Sorcerer – Origins has now been moved to a 2024 release. When in 2024? Not a clue as we type, but you’d do well to enjoy the new trailer below.

Original article – May 19th 2022

You may remember seeing Simon the Sorcerer casting spells on the Amiga back in the day. Now though, some thirty years after that original 1993 release, we get to take in the origin story, as Leonardo Interactive announces Simon the Sorcerer – Origins.

Coming to PC and console (Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch) in early 2023, Simon the Sorcerer – Origins will thrust magic, monsters, puzzles and more to fans of one of videogames’ most beloved heroes.

It’s going to arrive from the publishing team of Leonardo Interactive (Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town fame), as their developer Smallthing Studios look to open up a whole new chapter in the Simon series, with Simon the Sorcerer – Origins. This will look to run as the prequel to the original Simon the Sorcerer point and click adventure and is currently in development for PC and consoles.

Promising to bring a fresh, modern reimagining of the classic adventure game franchise, Simon the Sorcerer – Origins is the official prequel to the original Simon the Sorcerer game and transports players back to just a few weeks before the events of the first episode. If you decide to drop in, you’ll find a game world which has been crafted with a modern visual style, filled with seamless realtime sequences, magic and puzzle solving tied together with an engrossing storyline – and yep, that will finally answer some important questions that were raised from the first game.

Having paved the way for many of the beloved point and click graphic adventures that have been entertaining fans for three decades, it could be said that Simon the Sorcerer stole the hearts of gamers when it was released on MS DOS and Amiga – yep, we were Team Amiga back then. By applying some modern visuals and cutting edge gameplay mechanics to the development of Simon the Sorcerer – Origins, this latest title should be highly appealing to fans of the original – as well as those from a new generation of gamers excited for the current revival of these classic franchises.

“We are beyond excited to finally be able to announce Simon the Sorcerer – Origins and embark on the exciting development journey with Smallthing Studios” commented Leonardo Caltagirone, founder of Leonardo Interactive. “It has been a long time wish of ours to revive one of the gaming industry’s best loved and iconic characters. Our goal will be to create a new world brought to life with beautiful modern visuals and all new gameplay mechanics to tell the untold story of Simon’s origins”.

Simon the Sorcerer – Origins is coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch in early 2023. Go and Wishlist it on Steam right now.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
