Telltale are back with The Expanse!

Telltale, oh how much did we miss you? Since you departed our lives with The Walking Dead: The Final Season in 2019, the world underwent its own apocalypse. We came through it. Today marks the return of this legendary developer, with a brand-new galactic story – The Expanse: A Telltale Series on Xbox, PlayStation and PC.

A Piratical Space Opera

We like to imagine that the only reason Telltale have returned is that someone mentioned ‘space pirates’, and from here The Expanse was born.

In truth, The Expanse has been lovingly created in immense detail from the team, in cooperation with Deck Nine.

This has produced a brand-new narrative adventure that fans of the genre have been craving. Whether it is the aforementioned The Walking Dead, the criminally under-rated The Wolf Among Us, or gripping adventures through other game worlds such as Tales from the Borderlands, we all know just how supreme Telltale are in intense storytelling.

In The Expanse: A Telltale Series, you’ll play as Camina Drummer, Executive Officer of the Artemis spaceship. You and your crew are just a few space pirates in a universe full of the horrible lot. And they are on the search for a huge score within shipwrecks. The Belt in which you find yourself is a perilous place, rife with wrecked ships, zero-g obstacles, and rival pirates to fight against.

Control Your Crew

As well as navigating the game world with mag boots and zero-g thrusters, the core gameplay of The Expanse will have you conversing with a number of your crewmates to ensure they are all kept on-side. The last thing you want is a mutiny aboard the Artemis!

With the world a lot more interactive and explorable than traditional Telltale titles, you’ll regularly come across events in the world that you can interact with, communicating back to your crew about these.

Of course, The Expanse will contain a number of key decisions to make, that will decide the (oft gruesome) fate of your crew.

A Telltale like no other

  • A TELLTALE STORY LIKE NO OTHER – Immerse yourself in the role of Camina Drummer, the Executive Officer aboard the Artemis, a scavenging ship hunting for a big score in the outer regions of the Belt. You must corral a crew rife with tense relationships and powerful personalities, and make tough decisions that will decide everyone’s fate.
  • EXPLORE THE BELT IN ZERO-G – Scour shipwrecks, use mag boots to walk on walls and ceilings, and utilize zero-g thrusters to float through the void. As you fly through sections of ships and the open expanse of space, interact with objects in the world and converse with members of the crew in the largest and most immersive exploration of any Telltale game to date.
  • DIFFICULT CHOICES, GRAVE CONSEQUENCES – Contend with the unforgiving brutality of space, the politics of a corrupt solar system, the animosities of your crew, and Drummer’s own conflicting responsibilities to the people she cares about and the Belt she has sworn to protect. There is no right or wrong path – only your choices and the consequences they unleash.

Episode One of The Expanse: A Telltale Series on Xbox is Now Available

Keeping with the episodic releases of previous titles from the developer, episodes of The Expanse will release every two weeks, starting from today.

You can pick up a copy of the full game – granting you access to each of the five episodes as soon as they release – on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and PC.

Via the Xbox Store, the standard edition of the game will cost you £33.49. Alternatively, the Deluxe Edition costs £37.49, and grants you access to the bonus episode, Archangel.

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
