The Melody of Mystery to enhance Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince

It’s been pretty much a year since we had the opportunity to check out Trine again, what with the release of the Trine: Ultimate Collection and Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince itself back in October 2020. Now though it’s time for a bit of a tease as Modus Games and the development team at Frozenbyte announce the Melody of Mystery – a new story-driven DLC campaign for Trine 4.

Due to hit PC later this month – via either Steam, EA Origin, GOG or the Humble Store – and then followed on Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch in the Spring of 2021, players will get the chance to return to the Astral Academy with an all-new six-level adventure, one that just so happens to bring with it new skills, puzzles and a mysterious enchanted slumber.

Trine 4: Melody of Mystery takes the series’ trio of heroes back to the Astral Academy once more, all in order to investigate an enchanted slumber which has enveloped the academy’s students. You see, it seems that there is a suspicious and mistakenly freed spirit on the loose, and so Amadeus, Pontius, and Zoya will head off on an all-new journey through six more levels.

It is here where they’ll master upgraded abilities while solving fresh puzzles incorporating new elements like sheets of ice, torches, magnets, and crystals. If you want to see it in action, get a first look at the adventure ahead – and take in its accompanying new musical tracks – by hitting up the trailer below.

Whilst Spring 2021 may seem some way off for us Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch players to get access to the Melody of Mystery, those on PC won’t have to wait too long at all. Just keep an eye out for the addition via the PC store of your choosing.

If you haven’t yet played Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince, then you’ll probably wish to know more about it. Our full review will fill you in with the finer details, but in a nut-shell it sees the return of the classic side-scrolling platforming series to its roots, smartly shifting its puzzle designs to accommodate solo players or parties of up to four heroes.

Let us know in the comments if you’ll be looking to take the DLC in when it arrives.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
