The Most Popular Games We’re Streaming on YouTube

-

Best of 2025

From old favorites of the gaming community to brand-new releases, there are several games that are popular for streaming on YouTube.

Nearly 50% of gamers say they’d rather spend more time watching video game streams on YouTube than actually playing games. It makes sense when we consider that gaming is as much about community as it is about playing video games. Streaming takes the entire experience to another level, providing not just a community but a live social experience, too. It’s also the perfect way to watch top gamers in action and learn from them.

Here’s a look at some of the more popular Xbox games that are engaging mainstream audiences on YouTube and how they’re doing it.

Fortnite

Let’s start with one of the biggest games around. The popular battleground game is action-packed and fast-paced enough to keep viewers from losing interest. The short load times between games also add to its popularity, along with the fact that Fortnite Battle Royale is free to download on Xbox One.

Famous gaming streamers such as Ninja and Tfue brought Fortnite to the forefront of the Twitch community; however, with Ninja now streaming exclusively through Microsoft’s Mixer platform and Tfue taking a break from streaming, we may see YouTube capitalize on this space.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

This is a classic game that has no chance of dying. There are always matches being played, complete with intense action. It’s also a game with an unwavering fan-based that assures an engaged audience right out the gate.

Since its release in 2012, this game has enjoyed almost 300,000 YouTube views and 804 comments per week. To date, peak concurrent players are sitting at 697,360.

Overwatch

The team-based action and multitude of characters make Overwatch a lot of fun to watch. It’s a game brimming with personality, which is why it’s also a most-watched game.

One of the things that makes Overwatch popular is that it feels like a live-work rather than a static game. Throughout the year, the developers, Blizzard Entertainment, hold in-game events. For example, the Lunar New Year sees tons of outfits added for the characters along with a brand-new mode and map. It is events like these that give the developers the opportunity to add limited-time game modes and interact with the active Overwatch community.

Minecraft

Minecraft paves the way for a sensational amount of experience and things to see. No two streams are ever alike, and new creations always attract new viewers. Gamer, Daniel Middleton, is famed for playing this game on YouTube and this year, he scooped the title of highest-earning YouTube star, earning $16.5 million per year.

Grand Theft Auto V

GTA first hit Xbox in 2004, and it’s still going strong, with plenty to do and lots of people to kill. The immense amount of detail alone makes watching the game a thrill.

As gaming technology and trends evolve, so do the ways in which we enjoy them. When it comes to YouTube streams and the top gamers out there, we can look to their ambition and knowledge to take our gaming to exciting heights.

There is an argument to be made about streaming niche games, too, but the best YouTube gaming channels are the ones that get everyone talking. After all, the entertainment value tends to be a great deal higher than a regular movie’s unchanging scenario.

YouTube gamers are making a decent income out of playing online, and that means there’s money to be made from providing streams to engaged audiences on the hunt to watch gaming at its best.
