If you’ve picked up a game controller at any point over the last three decades, there’s a chance you would have played a bit of The Settlers. A series that first launched to the world some thirty years ago, it’s gone through a ton of iterations. Today though it’s all about the new, with a surprise launch of The Settlers: New Allies on Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

From Ubisoft teams, The Settlers: New Allies on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch is the most recent of the iconic series. A strategy game with depth, this one has been rebuilt from the ground up to work perfectly on console.

Get settling

The Settlers: New Allies will allow you the chance to navigate life as one of three different factions. We’ve got the Elari in house, the Maru ready for action and the Jorn at your beck and call. Each of these civilisations come with their own unique playstyles, stories and more.

Drop into The Settlers: New Allies on Xbox, PlayStation or Switch and you’ll find a campaign front and centre. Pushed along by a strong narrative, it’s this which will probably be your first port of call. But there there is also the Hardcore mode to consider too, as well as further challenges and tests.

If you’ve played a The Settlers game over the years, then you should know what to expect here. New Allies makes the most of the power of the online world too though. See, it’ll let you battle it out with up to eight players in skirmish battles. You’ll also be able to make the most of Ubisoft’s AI settings too.

Key features in summary

  • Fully reimagined from the ground up, with stunning graphics and detailed animations.
  • Choose among three factions: the Elari, the Maru, and the Jorn. Each has a unique look, playstyle, and background story.
  • Experience a story-driven campaign set in the world of The Settlers, or go for the special Hardcore mode and its additional challenges.
  • Play online with up to eight players in thrilling skirmish battles against other players or AI for long-lasting fun.

Grab The Settlers: New Allies on Xbox

So how do you get access to The Settlers: New Allies on Xbox, PlayStation or Switch? Well, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players will be covered by the Xbox Store. It’s here where you’ll find the Standard Edition of the game for £49.99, whilst a Deluxe Edition sits at £69.99. The latter adds in the Founders Pack, the Explorer Pack and the Deluxe Pack. An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
