The ultimate adventure awaits with Outward: Definitive Edition on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC

Three years have passed since Prime Matter (then under the Deep Silver name) and Nine Dots Studio released the unique open-world adventuring of Outward to Xbox, PlayStation and PC. It was a time when the last-gen was in full swing, and players readied themselves for a journey into the unknown. It went down pretty well too, so much so that everything that has since arrived has been bundled together in a new next-gen Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC specific Outward: Definitive Edition.

Available today for those with snazzy new consoles and uber-powerful PCs to hand, is Outward: Definitive Edition. This is the all-encompassing adventure that many have been waiting for, whether they be the Outward veterans looking for the best version yet, or the newbies preparing themselves for adventure.

On Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC, the Definitive Edition of Outward brings together the original base game, a couple of DLC packs – Three Brothers and The Soroboreans – and a host of new and updated content.

In Outward, you’ll find yourself living out the life of an ordinary adventurer, left to not just hide or defend yourself against threatening creatures, but also brave the hazardous environmental conditions, protect yourself against infectious diseases, make sure you get enough sleep and – most importantly – stay hydrated.

It’s a game in which you’ll embark on perilous expeditions across untamed lands to reach new cities, undertake varied missions and discover hidden dungeons crawling with formidable enemies. But there are problems, as you would imagine.

Mostly this revolves around the ‘Corruption’ – a toxic material spreading across the land that can best be described as radioactivity of the soul. This is found naturally in the land of Outward, its distribution concentrated and expanded after the Scourge Spell was cast, which also destroyed cities and created the most dangerous monsters at the same time.

What this all means is that by taking in the adventures of Outward, you’ll be found venturing into the wilderness in order to overcome a host of challenges. And with the new Definitive Edition, that challenge will be greater than ever before.

It’s a game that caters for the single player or those preferring to journey with friends, with a download of Outward: Definitive Edition found on the usual stores for around £34.99. If you’re an Xbox Series X|S player, it’s the Xbox Store which will sort you out.

But what if you have already purchased Outward previously and want to enjoy the new found glories of the Definitive Edition? Well, if you have the base game, plus the Three Brothers DLC, you’ll be able to redeem a free copy of the Definitive Edition – no fuss, no bother.

Key features include:

  • ·         New unique encounters in dungeons
  • ·         New defeat scenarios
  • ·         New diseases
  • ·         Access to stash in coop
  • ·         Improved enchantment & crafting
  • ·         Visual optimisation
  • ·         More totem workshops
  • ·         Previously DLC exclusive corruptions hazards spread throughout the whole game
  • ·         And much more

The question is, will you be picking up that backpack again?

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
